Continue ReadingThe Ottawa-Kent Conference is one of the biggest conferences in the state, boasting 46 schools. The Blue Division gives the Red Division a run for its money for best division in the OK. The Blue is home to perennial power West Catholic and is one of the deepest in the state, thanks to schools like Holland Christian and Hamilton. The Blue also had a ton of freshmen in the All Conference list.
Seniors
The seniors are undoubtably headlined by West Catholic’s Cadence Dykstra Cadence Dykstra 5'9" | PG Grand Rapids West Catholic | 2023 State MI , #5 in the PGH rankings. I’ve had the opportunity to coach against Cadence, and it was a miserable experience; she excels as a slash and pass ball handler that plays as gritty as you can. Hamilton’s pair of seniors aren’t as heralded but will cause headaches for other teams. Kyra Kleinheksel Kyra Kleinheksel C Hamilton | 2023 State MI is a double-double post that protects the rim, while Taylor Vander Zwaag is a Three and D specialist that provides a nice inside out tandem. Tryna Vander Zwaag from Holland Christian may or may not be related, but they share the DNA of a sniper from deep; Tryna has a silky smooth, lefty jumper that has to be accounted for at all times. Maddi Miller is a Three and D player that doesn’t get enough credit for a Coopersville team that struggled last year, but she puts up a fight every night and torches the net with her quick release.
Juniors
The Class of 2024 is kind of an overlooked class, sandwiched between two stellar classes, but the class does provide kids that are going to be called on this year to step up to a larger role. Ella Andree out of Spring Lake is set to have a monster year; the three sport star is losing two All Conference seniors but is more than ready to take her three level scoring to the next level. West Catholic’s Emma Tuttle Emma Tuttle PF West Catholic | 2024 State MI is the quintessential glue kid that is always positioned properly and makes connecting passes. Maleya Obande Maleya Obande 5'5" | CG Unity Christian | 2024 State MI will be called on to often for Unity Christian; the slashing guard is fun to watch due to her slick pocket passes and tenacious driving.
Sophomores
West Catholic had a pair of talented in freshmen in Anna Ignatoski Anna Ignatoski 5'7" | PG West Catholic | 2025 State MI and Elisha Dykstra Elisha Dykstra SF West Catholic | 2025 State MI . Ignatoski is a zone busting shooter that loves the corner pocket; while the younger Dykstra is a gritty defender that would be a top scorer in any other program, as illustrated by her being rated #5 for PGH. Holland Christian’s Camryn VandenBosch Camryn VandenBosch 5'11" | SF Holland Christian | 2025 State MI will push Elisha for best sophomore in the Conference, as well as the state. The 19th ranked player is a six footer that has excellent touch from deep and loves to run the floor.
