Kya is a star for the Thompson Tommies and really had an outstanding junior campaign. She is one of the hardest working players in the 2026 class and in the entire state. She is relentless defensively and attacks the rim hard offensively. She is a lights out shooter from deep. She is undersized for a college guard, but I think she could be a steal as a recruit because of how effective her game is.

Kya is Thompson’s other top scorer. Like Addison, she can score from pretty much anywhere. She is an excellent outside shooter but is really tough going to the basket. She isn’t super tall, but is a very strong and tough driver. She is able to gain advantages and keep them using her strength. She is ultra competitive and has had another terrific season.

I have really enjoyed watching Kya play this season. She is a very good basketball player that plays with a toughness I can really appreciate. She is super competitive and able to battle with girls who are bigger than her. She is an excellent outside shooter with a great looking shot. Thompson runs a lot of 5-out action and she does an excellent job of decision making in that offense, understanding when to curl and replace and when to flare out. Hust averages 16.1 ppg. Kya has a quick first step and sets up her defender with great ball fakes which allows her to attack the rim.  She also has the strength to finish in traffic, in the paint, even against much taller defenders. If left alone on the perimeter, she has the ability to consistently knock down shots. Hurst is a true playmaker who works harder than anyone on the court.  Her ability to score from anywhere makes her tough to defend.

Kya is the other piece to the Thompson Tommies’ dynamic duo. It is rare for a team to have two All-State returners from the previous season, but Thompson is one of those rare teams. Kya, a 2nd-Team All-State selection last season, is a very good basketball player. She averaged an impressive 14.6 points per game last season. What is more impressive is her other statistics: 6.6 rebounds, 58 steals, 70 assists, 20 blocks, and 41 three point makes. She does everything well for the Tommies. Her ability to fulfill multiple roles depending on what her team needs each night is an incredible luxury to a coach.
