The 2022-23 New Jersey high school girls basketball season is quite literally around the corner, starting this week. We're so excited to bring as much high school basketball to you as we can, so why not continue our previews for the season! Here are some watch list players in the Cape Atlantic League that will be in postseason awards conversations come March.

[player_tooltip player_id='321557' first='Nir' last='Nir Cherry-Montague'] - 6-6 PF, Atlantic City (2023)

Who better to start this list out with the newest commit to Mississippi State and one of the best post players in the country. Ranked inside ESPN's Top 50 and considered a 4-star/5-star recruit by many, Montague is a beast in the middle, averaging a double-double last season for AC. She'll undoubtedly do the same and then some this season.

Ava Mazur - 5-7 SG, Mainland Regional (2024)

The Mazur sisters are going to be trouble this season in the Cape and Ava, the better shooter of the two and, more or less, the primary perimeter shooter for Mainland this season, she's going to be lighting things up from there. A great shot and an even better release, Mazur gets fantastic separation on shots and exploits mismatches constantly.

[player_tooltip player_id='406943' first='Bella' last='Mazur'] - 5-8 SG, Mainland Regional (2024)

Bella has her sister beaten on height by an inch as the friendly competition between the sisters go, but she's a fantastic player inside the lane and can create shots off nothing it seems. Just a creative mind and a player who sees the court well, Mazur thrives in 1-on-1 situations and will blow by any defender in her way to get to the basket.

[player_tooltip player_id='414395' first='Reese' last='Downey'] - 5-7 SG/PG, Absegami (2025)

There were two freshmen in particular that really wowed us last season down the shore in South Jersey and Downey was one of them. A natural-born scorer, Downey can do things off the dribble that most players would dream of being able to do. She'll break someone's ankles and nail a three right in their face or drive into the lane for a quick bucket. Multi-talented, multi-faceted and straight-up dominant.

[player_tooltip player_id='481549' first='Avery' last='Jackson'] - 5-9 SG/PG, Ocean City (2023)

The 2022-23 season will be Jackson's last in high school, but what a run she's had for Ocean City, more than earning her place at Montclair State as she continues her basketball career at the next level. Jackson can do it all for the Red Raiders, an excellent three-point shooter who drives the lane well and pulls up from mid-range. Just a fantastic talent to watch.

[player_tooltip player_id='488763' first='Hannah' last='Cappelletti'] - 5-4 PG, Ocean City (2024)

Cappelletti became of the best sharp-shooters in the Cape last season, knocking down 52 threes for the Red Raiders. While a point guard, she's one of the best shooters at the point guard position in South Jersey and does a great job at spreading the floor for teammates. Look out for her to continue to produce from the perimeter, but increase her scoring output inside the perimeter as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='481551' first='Samantha' last='Jones'] - G, Vineland (2023)

Another fantastic scorer, Jones has made her presence felt at Vineland and comes into this season as the focal point of this team, the backbone of the roster. She's shown plenty of why she deserves the recognition, a pure scorer with three-point shooting ability that is also one of the best defenders in the region. Nearly four steals a game last season? You can't teach that level of dominance.

[player_tooltip player_id='525308' first='Sabrina' last='Little'] - 5-4 PG/SG, Holy Spirit (2025)

Little had herself a fantastic season for Holy Spirit, coming out of the gates firing. With great skills in the interior and a complementary perimeter game, she's found her niche and found a groove to start her high school career. That production, nearly 10.8 PPG last season, should increase as she continues to develop and hone in on her craft.
