Julianna Almedia (Saddle River Day ’24) commits to Navy
Annapolis, Maryland must be a hot spot for New Jersey girls basketball because Saddle River Day standout Julianna Almedia officially committed to the United States Naval Academy on Jan. 4 via Twitter.
Almedia will join former Toms River North alum Gia Pissott at Navy, creating a little Garden State tandem that is sure to surprise and impress. Watch out for Almedia this season with SRD as some spots before the season have opened up to allow her to shine in a much bigger role.
Mackenzie Ward Mackenzie Ward 5'7" | PG Old Tappan | 2023 State NJ (Old Tappan ’23) commits to Franklin & Marshall
Old Tappan point guard Mackenzie Ward Mackenzie Ward 5'7" | PG Old Tappan | 2023 State NJ was the second notable commit from New Jersey of the new year, announcing her commitment to play at Franklin & Marshall on New Year’s Day.
Ward has stayed the course and remained consistently productive for Old Tappan this season, averaging a shade under 10.0 PPG and five rebounds a game while continuing to be effective inside the arc.
Emma Steidle Emma Steidle SG Clearview | 2023 State NJ (Clearview ’23) commits to Rollins College
South Jersey gets some love in this update as Clearview guard Emma Steidle Emma Steidle SG Clearview | 2023 State NJ , who has shined for the Pioneers over the past three years, announced her commitment to play at Rollins College, also on New Year’s Day.
A crucial piece for Clearview and a player who’s made waves on the AAU circuit with the Philly Belles, Steidle is averaging 13.2 PPG and two made 3-pointers a game for the Pioneers as a senior.
Rhian Stokes Rhian Stokes 5'8" | PG Ewing | 2024 State NJ (Ewing ’24) offered by Stony Brook, Monmouth
We’ve talked at length about how impressive Ewing has been, led by their three-headed monster of Joi Johnson Joi Johnson 5'11" | PF Ewing | 2024 State NJ , Rhian Stokes Rhian Stokes 5'8" | PG Ewing | 2024 State NJ and Te’Yala Delfosse Te’Yala Delfosse 6'2" | SF Ewing | 2024 State NJ . On Jan. 2, Stokes, who already has a few Division 1 offers under her belt, received two more in the form of Stony Brook and Monmouth.
Adding in some MAAC and America East flavor into her current list of offers, Stokes has continued to ball out for the Blue Devils this season, averaging a career-high 21.9 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 7.1 APG and 7.7 steals a game. Stokes has already recorded two triple-doubles this season, both unconventional with 10+ steals both times.
Sydney Jenisch Sydney Jenisch 5'8" | PG Randolph | 2023 State NJ (Randolph ’23) commits to UNE
The Jenisch twins have emphatically made their mark at Randolph and on Dec. 27, Sydney announced she’ll be continuing her basketball career at the next level, playing for the University of New England.
This season has been a banner one for Sydney, on pace to blow past her single-season 3-point total, with 13 through her first eight games. She’s averaging 13.5 PPG and two steals a game for the Rams.
Skylar Reale Skylar Reale PF Morristown-Beard | 2023 State NJ (Morristown-Beard ’23) commits to Gettysburg
Our last commit to touch upon in this article is Morristown-Beard senior Skylar Reale Skylar Reale PF Morristown-Beard | 2023 State NJ , who announced her commitment to play at Gettysburg College via the Crimson team account on Dec. 23.
Reale is one of the most underrated seniors in the state, coming off a double-double average as a junior and building upon that, currently averaging 15.3 PPG and 11.1 RPG and shooting the ball well from beyond the arc. Once a dominant player, always a dominant player.
