Brooklyn Phillips Brooklyn Phillips SG Clay-Chalkville | 2024 State AL from Clay-Chalkville had her presence know in this event. I had heard about Brooklyn, so this was the first time seeing her play in person, and she did not disappoint. Brooklyn led her team in 53-46 victory over Lee Huntsville HS with 18 points. These point all coming from trey ball. She hitting them over the dribble, coming off screen and just a pullup shot. She was asked how many shots she puts up on a daily basis, and her response was 500+. She has a nice size body, and a high basketball IQ, then it helps to have a 6-3 post on the floor with you. I am looking forward to seeing her play more in the coming weeks. A hidden gem that will make an excellent addition to a team on the next level in need of a sniper.
Ariana Peagler Ariana Peagler 5'6" | CG Hoover | 2024 State AL from Hoover, is playing aside Reniya Kelly Reniya Kelly 5'8" | PG Hoover | 2023 State AL in the SG position. Ariana is another hard-working player in this state, not just at practice but sacrificing her time after practice and on her off day. Ariana has great confidence in shooting the rock from 3-point land, and nice mid-range jumper. On defense, she can be disruptive in Hoover’s press with her long arms. Look for her to step into that leadership role next year.
Highlights
Limaya Batimba Limaya Batimba 5'8" | SF Lee HSV | 2024 State AL from Lee Huntsville. I call this player a rebounding machine, she has continued what she started last season. Limaya averaged a double-double and has continued that this season. She is a quiet hard worker, will challenge any and all post players, is not afraid of contact. Batimba always manages to box out, get the rebound and can start the fast break, if her guards are being the defended. She has a nice touch on the ball, and is always looking to score that basket. She had a double double with 11 points and 15 rebounds at this event.
Aaliyah Golston Aaliyah Golston 5'11" | SF Tuscaloosa Central | 2024 State AL from Central Tuscaloosa HS is an active PF with some length. She has taken advantage of the presence of her 6-6 teammate’s constant double team by becoming the leading scorer on this Central roster. Aaliyah has good hands, knows how to use that glass, and commands all rebounds whether they are offensive or defensive. Standing at 6-1, she just dominates in the paint and most times is unstoppable, which was evident with her 18 points on the night at the BallN Prep MLK Classic.
Tamya Smith Tamya Smith 6'0" | SF Pleasant Grove | 2024 State AL from Pleasant Grove, known as “Tee” and ranked in the top 10 of the 2024 Class for a reason. She is one of the most athletic and versatile post players in this state; she is what is known as a “3”. Tamya can shoot the ball, she can rebound on both sides of the ball and she can defend in the post or the perimeter. She showed all of that in this event by scoring 20 points in the last game of the event against Mortimer Jordan.
