Sabino
Sabino looked like they might be one of the best teams in state, regardless of conference. They made a statement defeating Pinnacle and Seton Catholic and advancing to the championship against Perry. Unfortunately, Sabino was without their best player, Kiya Dorroh, for the championship game. With Dorroh, I think they would have beaten Perry and won the championship but we’ll never know. With their full squad, they are a very scary team.
Valley Vista
Valley Vista has to be one of the biggest teams in state. They have so much size and athleticism. They overwhelmed teams with their great size and they have some solid guards. They are still missing star player, Jennah Isai. According to her, she is set to make her comeback in January. Once she comes back, Valley Vista could be one of the best teams in state and make a big run at the 6A championship.
Perry
Perry looked solid and they were missing a couple of players. Madison Conner and Tatyanna Clayburne are one of the best dynamic duos in all of Arizona. They provide so much play making and scoring for their squad. Conner was simply unstoppable and these performances will see her rise in the 2021 rankings.
Pinnacle
Pinnacle also played well and they were missing their star big, Kennedy Basham. I’m not sure why she was absent but Pinnacle looked good even without her. They played very fast and got up and down the court quickly. If they can maintain that speed of play and incorporate Basham’s talents, they are going to be scary. 6A is going to be very competitive this year. I see multiple teams making a solid run at the championship.
Xavier
Xavier was led by their two incoming freshman, Mia Davis and Sienna Cherwinski. Both of them played very well and should make up a nice duo for years to come. Davis and Cherwinski are going to grow into some elite level players in the near future. Davis already looks ready to compete with the best of the best. Cherwinski had her moments of greatness but still needs a little bit more time to come into her own and compete with the very best.
