Prep Girls Hoops has had the privilege of seeing Chepul at least twice during this holiday hoop season. Chepul followed up her stellar performance at the Y.C. Winborn Classic at Rock Hill HS with another strong showing at the Copperhead Classic. Chepul led all scorers with an 18-point effort in the third place game against host Catawba Ridge to once again get Marvin Ridge into the win column. While she is known throughout Hoop State basketball circles for what she can do from downtown, Chepul can also play in the interior with her back to the basket. Any college coaches out there need a talented standout who can light up a scoreboard – especially from deep? Waxhaw, North Carolina – Union County, specifically.

Chepul’s Marvin Ridge group began this year’s Winborn Showcase with a win over 5A Clover before a loss to another Palmetto State 5A assembling in Blythewood. The Mavericks had a chance to close their time in Rock Hill on a high note and her 24 points lifted Marvin Ridge to a 50-38 triumph over 4A Easley. Chepul is difficult to game plan for – and reason is because of how proficient she can be from long range. The Mavericks drained five triples as a team – three of them departed from Chepul’s hands. She also displayed why consistency is a centerpiece of her game as her point distribution was almost evenly split between the first and second halves.

Ella Chepul is an athlete that can fill multiple roles when she steps on the court.  She is a knock down shooter from deep, and she gets inside to battle contact and score some points.  She moves all around on offense finding the gaps and shifting the defense herself.  She is aware of how a ball will fall off a shot as she follows it to grab the rebound.  She can handle the ball, too, pushing it up the court on fast breaks.
