This year’s rendition of the Y.C. Winborn Showcase was another indication of that. The annual multi-day Holiday hoops event hosted by 5A Rock Hill HS once again welcomed teams from both sides of the North Carolina-South Carolina state line. This year’s rendition even had a team fly into the Carolinas all the way from Australia.
It also once again warmly welcomed us from Prep Girls Hoops. There were many standout performances at this year’s Winborn Showcase. Without further adieu, here is our top five.
Hunter Huss threw a two-headed monster of Swann and Myla Hoover Myla Hoover 5’7″ | CG Huss | 2024 State NC at its adversaries from Palmetto State-based Airport. While the Huskies were on the bad end of a 60-53 decision to the Eagles, Swann was difficult for Airport to contain as she placed 25 points on the board. Her rebounding capabilities compliments when she gets accomplished as a scorer. Swann can get from one end of the floor to the other with a great deal of quickness and she plays with a fearless attitude when her sneakers make contact with the hardwood. Swann has played for Team Curry during the AAU months of spring and summer.
Chepul’s Marvin Ridge group began this year’s Winborn Showcase with a win over 5A Clover before a loss to another Palmetto State 5A assembling in Blythewood. The Mavericks had a chance to close their time in Rock Hill on a high note and her 24 points lifted Marvin Ridge to a 50-38 triumph over 4A Easley. Chepul is difficult to game plan for – and reason is because of how proficient she can be from long range. The Mavericks drained five triples as a team – three of them departed from Chepul’s hands. She also displayed why consistency is a centerpiece of her game as her point distribution was almost evenly split between the first and second halves.
Looking to notch a victory over Rock Hill is never an easy task – especially when the 5A Bearcats are defending their home court. Hudson has blossomed into one of the signature players for the school’s girls basketball program. She scored 22 points in what turned out to be a very challenging contest for the Bearcats as they matched up against Charlotte Country Day in the final game of this year’s Winborn Showcase. Since she is so proficient at shooting the three, it throws defenses for a loop when she decides to either pass or attack the basket where she could connect on a smooth floater. Hudson can come in from out of nowhere and make a clutch play on the other end of the floor as well. College coaches looking to scout sharpshooting 2026s may want to pay Rock Hill a visit.
Hightower’s 5A Blythewood team departed the Y.C. Winborn Showcase with plenty of business taken care of. The Bengals had already earned victories over Spartanburg and Marvin Ridge. With a 20-point performance, Blythewood closed its time at the Winborn Showcase with an emphatic victory over the Ivanhoe Knights out of Australia. She displayed plenty of accuracy from behind the 3-point line with a grand total of five from behind the arc. She has an overall ability to score at all three levels and adds proficient rebounding, accurate passing and stout defense as part of her complete game.

Blythe’s Buccaneers began basketball play on Saturday with an 11-4 record. A huge reason for that is her accuracy from long range. Charlotte Country Day may have been on the receiving end of a 67-52 decision to host school Rock Hill in the final game of this year’s Winborn Showcase, but her 20 points were part of the reason why her team nearly pulled off a miraculous comeback in the fourth quarter. Her athletic plate is busy between playing varsity hoops and the soccer she also partakes in for the Buccaneers. As valuable as she is offensively, her defense can particularly leave opposing teams and coaching staffs asking questions on how can they keep her in check.
