Continue ReadingThe 2023 version of The Main Event sponsored by Mavs Elite Arkansas was a stage filled with top high school athletes from Texas to Illinois, Oklahoma to Mississippi, and all points between. Excellent basketball was displayed at a very high level. The following is a list of top performers at the swing guard position;
Laylah Reese Laylah Reese 5'7" | SF Cabot | 2023 State AR -Arkansas Sting Cabot H.S. 2023-Laylah, pictured above, is unsigned but has committed to Three Rivers College in Missouri. Versatility is her strength. She can play all of the guard positions but is most effective on the wing, utilizing her quickness, shooting ability, and size. She’s a leader and will take those leadership values to the next level of competition.
Jennifer Hartman Jennifer Hartman 5'10" | SF Morrilton | 2024 State AR -Swaggin’ Dragons Morrilton H.S. 2024-Jennifer can also play multiple positions. She’s most effective running the floor in transition. Clearly a mismatch with her 5’11” frame she can go inside and post up another guard with success. She has excellent footwork and is one of the top defenders on the court.
Jada Maples Jada Maples 5'9" | CG Earle | 2026 State AR -Mavs Elite Durham 2026 5’9″ Earle H.S. 2026-Jada got my attention early in the tournament. She’s a natural athlete. She’s plays with a calm and effortless motion. This youngster has a very high ceiling with unbelievable potential. Jada is a solid defender and will be a big part of the Bulldogs’ turnaround in the 2024 school season.
Journey Jefferson-Mavs Elite Durham 2026 5’7″ Earle H.S. 2027-Another Earle High School addition this coming year, Journey is just a freshman but will demand a look from the coaching staff! She plays with an aggressive fearless attitude. I really like her energy and surprising maturity playing at a higher level of competition. Look for better things in the future for the Earle Bulldogs because of this duo.
Brooklyn Woolsey-Arkansas Fastdogs 5’7″ Greenwood H.S. 2025-Brooklyn is another one of those multi-position players. Her versatility is important to her team because she does so many good things on the court. She’s a good defender. Her anticipation skills are top-notch, and she can run the floor. She can also fill in at the point if necessary. Her leadership skills are a key ingredient to her game.
Allison Gaines-Woodz Elite 2026 5’6″ East Poinsett County H.S.2027-This freshman to be could make some noise at the varsity level this coming year. Allison is quick and strong. She’s playing up this season and her game is getting better. She’ll need to work on her weak side but all the basic fundamentals are intact and with more work during this grassroots season, she’ll be ready to compete next school year.
The Ball So Hard Event featured over 50 teams. This list is just a small sample of swing guards I was fortunate enough to see play.
