Clara became PCA’s all-time assists leader (348) earlier this month and she reached another milestone last week. Clara swatted her 100th career block–an uncommon feat for a lead guard. Her aggressive and all-out style on both ends of the court makes her a complete player for the Eagles. She will continue her athletic and academic career at Cornerstone following graduation (softball).

I had the opportunity to see Clara play in person for the first time during the Plymouth Summer League, and she left no doubt about her value as a college basketball prospect. Clara has a muscular build that translates to the college game and finishes with strength through contact. She knocked down perimeter jumpers, fired laser beam passes to open teammates in transition, secured rebounds, played effective defense, and created space with her dribble combinations. Clara should have college basketball opportunities coming her way, and she’s on the verge of a huge senior season for Plymouth Christian Academy.

Clara is a dual-sport star at Plymouth Christian Academy, and I was very excited to watch her for the first time in person at the Plymouth Summer League last week. She reached 50 career wins and 500 career strikeouts as a junior softball pitcher after winning the MIAC MVP award for basketball. Clara showed off her rocket arm on the court last week as she launched long passes to open teammates down the court. Clara has strong shoulders, and she absorbed heavy contact to finish shots around the basket. Clara scored a sweet fake-pass layup going full speed in transition and used a shifty low double-crossover dribble to beat a defender to the cup for another layup. She showed her outside range, knocking down multiple three-pointers off the catch and the dribble. Clara made a highlight reel worthy play when she sized up her defender using a retreat dribble, shifted gears, exploded down the baseline, changed hands to her right, absorbed contact, and finished the layup. She created many steals and protected the rim as a shot blocker.

Groen is a lefty sniper coming away with numerous steals. The point guard always has her head up and would make the right read both in transition and when she would drive the lane. She showed off her mid-range jumper and had a few big blocks on taller opponents.

I just mentioned Groen in an article last week, which got me to watching some film. She’s going to best must see with Factory Basketball this season because she has some real skills with the ball. I’ll be honest, I always thought she was talented, but I think I missed a lot of that upside. I think Groen is going to make some “wow” type plays when she has the ball.

Groen is a talented player that carries a solid skill set. She can handle with both hands, most comfortably working from right to left. Groen can fake right with a crossover or behind her back to get her defender leaning. She does a really nice job both finding and creating lanes to the bucket and protects the ball on the finish.
