Continue ReadingThe final weekend of summer ball for a healthy slice of Kansas’ talented 2020s was spent with their clubs at The Reign the Plains MAYB exposure tournament held at Wichita Sports Forum. This is the third of three articles looking at the top 2020s from the event. The first looked at top guards while the second looked at the top wings and small forwards. Below are notes for centers and power forwards from the two day event event.
Centers
Machia Mullens, 6’0″, C, Liberal, Ohlde Elite 2020 Pink – Mullens can pull out defenders with her perimeter shooting and blow by them with her ball skills and quickness. Strong and physical on the defensive end she is effective at denying post entry passes. Two game statistics show an average of 11 points (4/12 from three), 6 rebounds. Mullens is committed to University of Missouri – Kansas City.
Maddie Wiltsie, 6’2″, C, Otis-Bison, Wheat State Elite – Ferguson (Chaos) – Wiltsie showed a rare to see, back-to-basket shoulder fake without moving her head. A quick drop step in the opposite direction yielded an easy basket. She showed the ability to create space inside against other talented bigs, including to catch a lob pass for a lay-in. Wiltsie is physical and has good transition speed. As she improves against other bigs with ball skills to get to the basket from 12′-15′ so will her ability to control the lane on both ends of the floor. Three game averages were 7.6 points, 3 rebounds, and an assist. Wiltsie is committed to University of Nebraska – Kearney.
Power Forwards
Ohlde Elite Pink 2020’s Faith Paramore is a blur on the finish against WSE Ferguson (Chaos)’s Kade Hackerott and Jaidyn Schomp.Faith Paramore, 5’11”, PF, Haven, Ohlde Elite 2020 Pink – Paramore has size, strength, and confidence to apply to her diverse talent set. A talented offensive player she can score from the perimeter, off-the-drive, and from her face-up and back-to-basket game using multiple moves. She also is an aggressive defender and offensive rebounder. Two game statistics show an average of 12.5 points (2/7 from three), 5 rebounds. Paramore is committed to Oral Roberts University.
Katie Wagner, 5’11”, PF, Maize South, Ohlde Elite 2020 Pink – Wagner’s size, athleticism, strength, and grit made her a difficult match up. While forward is where I commonly found her she has the ability to play four positions and defend four positions including the point. A scorer who can create for others as well as for herself she makes terrific use of her body to score against bigger posts. She also has the ability to elevate over taller opponents. Notable is her aggressiveness as an offensive rebounder. Two game statistics show an average of 6.5 points (1/2 from three), 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Wagner is committed to Fort Hays State University.
