Game Recap: Mesquite at Gilbert

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Mesquite</strong> hosted <strong>Gilbert</strong> in a battle of unbeaten cross-town rivals. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The game lived up to the billing, with lead changes and high level basketball played. Mesquite used their size and controlled the tempo with tough full-court defense that rattled Gilbert early in the first half, however, that tempo wasn't sustainable as [player_tooltip player_id='530987' first='Navae' last='Guidry'] picked up 3 fouls midway through the 2nd quarter allowing Gilbert to put up a 27 point quarter, headlined by super freshmen guard [player_tooltip player_id='588386' first='Caia' last='Campbell']'s 17 first half points, to lead at half, 42-31. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The third quarter saw both teams slow a little, but Gilbert was able to add to their lead with great ball movement as Mesquite tried to figure out a lineup they could make a run with despite Sepulveda and Guidry in foul trouble. Mesquite rallied early in the fourth quarter but took a blow when Vanessa Sepulveda fouled out while trying to force a turnover trapping the ball. Mesquite cut the lead to 11, but lost momentum when Guidry fouled out with <a href="//embedded-result/1000">1:49</a> left in the game.
