We have been talking to a few college coaching staffs since this event and there is interest for Vivian Cook at the next level in some capacity. Cook came to this event in Bellevue from Iowa and she did a good job of separating herself as someone to note throughout the day as a whole. She began the event by hitting some shots from deep. From there, she would suck the defense in with a shot fake, eventually taking things towards the basket for a floater or finish in some other way. There are some coaches out of the Midwest who need a few more 2027’s to complete their upcoming rosters and Cook will be put in those conversations because she is fundamentally sound, she is a quick learner, and she listens to the coaches that are trying to guide her in real time. Those are three things coaches at the next level love to see so we will just have to wait to watch how things play out from this point moving into the Winter.

A known prospect in the state of Iowa, Cook was a fresh face for our scouts on Sunday, and the Montezuma senior gave us plenty to take notice of. Standing at 5’5 with a solid, muscular build, Vivian excels as an aggressive one-on-one defender who uses her strength to play physical and absorb contact from her opponents. On the offensive end, the Iowa Hoop Dreams guard keeps it simple. She doesn’t force things, moves well off the ball, and is a confident shooter who can let the ball fly from well beyond the three-point line. After averaging 14.8 points, 2.5 assists, and 2.3 steals per game last winter, we suspect this will be a big year for Cook.

Cook has been on our radar for a few years now and she has interest from a few college programs across the Midwest at this point moving into the Fall of her Senior season. For any coach that is looking for a solid Guard – who is good in pick and roll situations, who can shoot off the catch or dribble, who is also a sound defender, then this could be your girl. She has a really nice shot from distance and she isn’t afraid to let it fly at any point over the half court line. Defensively, she is at her best within man-2-man defense but she is versatile enough that she can thrive playing at a spot in a zone as well if asked. I’m sure this Winter we will hear more about this one prior to her graduation with her play on the hardwood. She has always been a standout for her high school group and I expect that to be the same result this Winter for her last go-around.

The Cook family knows how to shoot. There is not a doubt about that to anyone that has seen them compete for Montezuma over the past couple of years. They let it fly and ask questions later and those shots like to go in the hoop a majority of the time so there isn’t much to say about it other than that it’s impressive. Vivian has also proven over the past few seasons that she can handle the ball under pressure, making plays for those around her off of her creation at the PG position if need be. You have to love the versatility here. She can move around the outside at a steady rate, making plays on basically every possession if she is determined. I’m not sure if she is playing AAU this Spring but if she is, I’d be excited to see her compete within that type of environment. I have a feeling she would thrive with the more chaos around her but we will just have to wait and see!

One of the state’s premier shooters off the wing position is Vivian Cook Vivian Cook 5'5" | PG/SG Montezuma | 2027 IA out of Montezuma from the 2027 Class. Cook made her made last Winter as a Sophomore when she converted 81 three point attempts from distance. Montezuma is one of those programs that usually takes care of business so that they possess a few prospects like this is not surprising. Now she just needs to build on what she put in place a year ago. Something that should be fairly easy if she has been putting in the work this off-season.

The sophomore is shooting the deep ball at 35% this season for Montezuma but took her game to the next level in the Bravettes’ first game of regionals. Going 7/14 from deep, the sophomore shooter finished the night with 21 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. As the stakes get higher in regional play Cook has started her post season off with a bang and is showing that despite being an underclassman, she can hit big shots in big moments. Cook and the Bravettes look to continue their postseason run on Friday with a big time matchup versus Melcher-Dallas.
