They are a very young team that is very well coached and very fun to watch. They defeated Jenks 71-52 to take home third place and I came away very impressed with most every player that head coach Bobby Beveal put out there on the court.
I feel like Aaliyah is being woefully under-recruited at this point. She is No. 19 in our rankings and that could be too low, to be honest. A tall player with tremendous length, especially at the guard spots, Shawnee is incredibly bouncy and athletic. She has an ease about her with the ball in her hands from a lot of school and travel ball experience that seems to rub off on all of the players around her. Aaliyah is a smart defender who uses her length well to get a lot of steals and disrupt passing lanes leading to a lot of turnovers from her opponents. She has a quick shooting stroke and can score in myriad ways. I’d fully expect Shawnee’s recruiting to get hot and heavy this coming grassroots season. She definitely needs to be on your radar, coaches.
Highlights
Yaya is a freshman that we have known was coming for a while now and it still kinda seems like nobody was fully prepared. She is a big-time difference maker for the Warriors with her handles and defense. Though her shot wasn’t landing early on, she continued to do all of the little things and kept her head up. As the game progressed, the energy she put into feeding her teammates the ball and the hardwork she put into defense began to translate into some fastbreak buckets. Next thing you know, she hit some big-time three-point shots. As a young player, her poise is already off the charts. It’s clear to see that Yaya is going to be a big-time prospect in the class of 2027!
Highlights
Mikayla is a phenomenal shooter and had 11 on Saturday with three from long range. Every time I see her play, she is shooting from WAY outside. The three-point line really is a suggestion. As long as she’s beyond it, she doesn’t care too much how far beyond it she is. On top of being a great spot-up shooter, she is a very hard worker on the defensive end. She is also really good at reading the play and forced several turnovers through her anticipation of what the other team was trying to accomplish offensively. She is the type of player that every winning team absolutely has to have.
Tyra McKinnie
Tyra McKinnie
As I continue to refine the next iteration of the 2026 rankings, to be released sometime near the beginning of February, I am constantly on the lookout for sophomores that we haven’t taken full stock of yet at PGH. Boy, did I “find” a big time one on Saturday! Tyra was absolutely everywhere during Glenpool’s game and is the definition of a gamechanger. Tall, long, athletic, and competitive. She showed tremendous hands inside and grabbed some lightning fast passes into the post that other players most definitely could have let slip away. She works very hard down low, which you don’t often see with young bigs. She does it consistently on both ends and wants to win every single individual battle on the court. She was a breath of fresh air, honestly. Very fun to watch.
Amiyah Rolland
Amiyah Rolland
Miyah was one of the first players off the bench for the Warriors and her defensive effort was outstanding. She is long and bouncy and can close the space on a shooter with little to no warning leading to a plethora of altered and blocked shots. Offensively, she moves well without the ball and is clearly a smart player, though with the talent that Glenpool has, she may not be leaned on to score as much, just yet. I look forward to watching her development as it is clear that she has a lot of natural talent to work with. I know the coaching staff at Glenpool will work hard to maximize her potential.
