Standout Freshmen this Postseason

Lincoln put the pressure on the Rams and Billish was a big part of setting the tone early on with energy and defensive intensity. She got some pokes and tips on the defensive side and was also able to speed things up on the offensive end, getting to the rim and showing some nice finishing on the left side of the hoop. She got it going in the second quarter, getting some nice action to the rim and using that left hand to finish around defenders. She got active in the backcourt with their full court pressure and snagged a couple of steals, but the most impressive part of her game was her shooting. One of their freshman, [player_tooltip player_id='764345' first='Laney' last='Weaver'], had a big hand in their game against Olympia scoring inside and out, and showing some hustle to get to 50/50 balls. She showed some promise early on, making nice passes ahead of the defense in transition, finding lanes to attack in the half court, and keeping active hands on their press. Then she really started to find her rhythm on the offensive end by changing her speeds up off the dribble and setting up defenders with a hard cross. The Beavers came up just short but Meyer did just about all she could to keep her team in it. She immediately showed off a promising combo of size and skill on the perimeter, handling the ball with ease and regularity. She was constantly pushing the ball up the floor and keeping her focus down the court, finding teammates with long passes in transition and putting good zip on them too. She was all over the game, blocking a couple shots inside, showing great footwork to split defenders at times, knocking in some 3s, and even draining a half-court shot at the end of the third quarter. She announced her presence against Holy Names on Monday by snatching four first half steals and at least one more in the second half. She was all over passing lanes, getting up into ballhandlers in their full court press and showed some outstanding quickness and reactions. Curtis also sunk a couple of paint buckets, using the glass and finishing with either hand. And although she wasn't particularly effective outside the paint in the first half, she came back in the second to nail two big 3s extending their lead in the fourth quarter. She's a quick little point guard who had a great game against Bothell, playing with pace and control on both ends of the floor. She showed a really easy looking stroke from deep, though most of her shots came on the go and closer to the rim. She moved the ball around well, showed good vision in transition, and overall seemed to have a good feel for creating with the ball in her hands. She plays aggressively all over the court and really did a nice job getting penetration and getting to the rim. She was active defensively, popping up quick to meet ballhandlers on the perimeter or coming from behind to double. She got numerous tips and strips, was quick to loose balls, and showed good speed to run down plays.
