Begeman might be one of the more intriguing long-term prospects I watched at the Hardwood Challenge. Listed at 5-foot-10 but looking taller, she has the kind of length that immediately changes a game. There were moments when she looked like a player still growing into her frame and others when she looked downright dominant. That’s part of what makes her interesting right now. Shelby rebounds, blocks shots, handles the ball, and shoots it with a fluid, economical stroke. Her volleyball background shows up in her timing and body control, while her basketball pedigree is obvious in the fundamentals. In today’s game, positionless players like this are in high demand. As a coach’s kid with both parents having been highly accomplished players, Shelby is destined for big things.
