Maeve is off to a strong start with iBelieve Elite on the 17U S40 team, going 4-0 at the New England Spring Showdown. She is a crafty finisher around the rim, capable of using reverse layups and creative finishes. She also has a reliable mid-range pull-up when left open and a quick-trigger three-point shot that only needs a small window to go up.

Even though early on, Maeve started off a bit slow, she started to find her groove in the back half of the season. Her natural instincts, intelligence in identifying outcomes, defensive positioning, rebounding and outside shooting capabilities all come together nicely in a strong package. There’ll be lot of opportunities in AAU for Early to take advantage of players that aren’t equipped to handle someone so well constructed.

Early is looking like she’s in prime form. She’s moving fluidly, making quicker decisions and just overall more aggressive with the ball. It’s nice to see Maeve connecting on those quality shots she can get to. Her hard work is paying off and she was absolutely vital in getting the squad a big win vs Austin Prep at home a few nights ago.

Maeve had a strong showing in a recent NEPSAC matchup against Rivers, finishing with 11 points and three steals while knocking down three three-pointers. She consistently beats defenders on the perimeter and uses jump stops in the paint to stay on balance, allowing her to either finish or dish to open teammates. Her defensive instincts stand out, as she jumps passing lanes and creates turnovers. A tall guard, she also takes advantage of mismatches by powering her way to the basket against smaller defenders.

Maeve has been playing well despite dealing with injuries early in the season. She moves effectively without the ball to create easy scoring opportunities, is comfortable operating in the mid-range and on the block, and also has the range to knock down shots from deep. She sees the floor well, advances the ball confidently, and can create offense for herself and others out of the pick-and-roll.

Maeve didn’t come out the gates hot, but stayed the course throughout the game. When some players aren’t hitting their early shots, it sometimes means they’ll be rushed, tense or in some cases, even despondent. However, that’s not the case with Early. She kept on being aggressive and her steadfast approach led to rewarding outcomes. It was some vital playmaking from her later in the game that became indispensable.
Maeve decided to play a bit more physical in the second half, getting to rebounds in the paints and also making the defense commit on drives so she could find teammates. Her pass to find Anderson on the baseline put St. Andrew’s back on the ropes with 1:50 left to play. Early’s activity was very much needed to get the win.
