Lily is off to an excellent start in her first season at Worcester Academy as the team approaches the midseason mark. She delivered an impressive performance against St. Andrew’s, nearly recording a triple-double with 7 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists while committing zero turnovers, highlighting her poise and decision-making. Lily is quick with the ball, needing only one efficient move to beat defenders, and demonstrates advanced court awareness by creating scoring opportunities for teammates through well-timed, purposeful passes. She is also a reliable shooter from beyond the three-point line, knocking down threes at a high rate.

Downing is a player that’s grown immensely in a short time. The foundation to her game has always been there, but the refinements are starting to truly separate her. Her knack for finding others within the offense as she’s being pressured and getting them the ball in prime positions shouldn’t be overlooked. These are plays that others typically get turnovers on, but her accurate passes can be relied upon no matter what type of game she’s in. Lily’s control over the offense is another standout feature of hers. She keeps her poise and refuses to let the harassing defenders get her out of what she’s doing. The shot making has yet to mentioned either, that’s the real cherry on top when it comes to her capabilities.

Lily is a lights-out shooter with a lightning-quick release, getting her shot off immediately upon the catch. She runs the floor well to create easy fast-break opportunities, and her lethal shooting ability makes her a constant offensive threat. With the ball in her hands, Lily’s quickness forces defenders to scramble, often leaving them a step behind in the open court.

Downing is starting to get that respect she’s due for her advanced skillset. After a major summer session, Lily has made a name for herself as one of the best at her position. She’s a true point that can also come through in many ways for her team. Downing controls the pace, limits turnovers, has lethal range, amazing vision and abrupt quickness that works on both ends. Worcester has a gem in Downing.

Worcester recruited yet another top talent to add to their dazzling backcourt. Lily recently reclassed to ’28 and her play with the Starz has been fantastic this season. She’s looking mighty sharp with the ball in her hands, making the right reads, running the offense fluidly as well as bring a high IQ to each matchup. What s been most impressive is to see her progression as a scorer. The understanding to exercise good judgment on the fly can’t overlooked. In the past, she was somewhat of a floor general with a reliable shot, but Lily’s ability to get a basket has dramatically improved. Her change of speed truly allows her to get separation and she’s awfully slippery, especially getting downhill. Downing doesn’t get flustered by pesty defenders either, the confidence as she gets to her spots is evident. Even through adversity or in high pressure situations Downing remains true to her nature. Considering the past few months she’s had; everything seems to be pointed upwards. Lily will be one of the most intriguing watches in the class next year.

Lily is the quintessential point guard when it comes to facilitation and distribution for the modern game. Downing is worthy of serious regard. She offers some scoring from 3 levels, but really makes her mark diming teammates and advancing the ball. After getting to see her play a few weeks back at The Expo, it was she’s well worthy of the praise she receives. Downing is without a doubt one of the top point guards in her class. She makes excellent decisions with the ball in her hand. Lily can thread the needle like no other, but she is rarely forcing plays to happen that aren’t there. The court awareness she has just makes it easier for her to recognize plays a second before defenders can react. It almost seems as if Lily is one step ahead of the defense after she assesses her options. She plays with excellent tempo and a certain pace that require defenders to stay on the balls of their feet. Lily can really raise her stock this season as she finds her consistency as an aggressive scorer that never takes her foot off the pedal. Downing is an intriguing player to keep an eye out for this season.

The sophomore guard was playing with plenty of talent in grades above her and was completely comfortably exercising her floor general skills. Never seemed to get flustered out there. Liliy was on the floor with a good number of upperclassmen that wanted to take the reins with the scoring load, Downing evenly distributed the ball around to them. She was finding teammates cutting and even more impressive was the precision passing that all hit teammates in their hands leading to baskets. An assist machine is exactly what Lily is. During the showcase she put on a facilitation show while also revealing her ability to knock down rhythm jump shots. She gets solid lift on the jump shots that help propel the ball up and over the rim at her size. Not just a dominate ballhandler, her shooting skills allow her to slide to off-ball positions comfortably. Lily certainly showed why she was included in the recently posted 2027 rankings. One of the top pgs in the class.
