Tink Butler | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Tink Butler is a Senior Journalist for Prep Girls Hoops and one of the most respected evaluators in girls’ basketball. He began evaluating and ranking players in 2007 while assisting with the Real Basketball Report, and in 2009 founded Next Sports Phenom (NSP)—which quickly became the premier source for girls basketball coverage in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. NSP later evolved into a highly successful NCAA-approved scouting service, subscribed to by nearly every college program east of the Mississippi River. In 2018, Butler stepped away from NSP to devote more time to his family. He later partnered with the Prep Hoops Network to launch Prep Girls Hoops Maryland/DC and Prep Girls Hoops Virginia, continuing his influential role in the evaluation landscape. Renowned for his eye for talent, Butler has accurately projected the rise of hundreds of players, often as early as grade school, who later emerged as national prospects. His evaluations are widely trusted by college coaches and fellow scouting services for their insight, consistency, and unbiased perspective. Beyond scouting, Butler has formally coached at the collegiate level and is also a former undefeated professional boxer. His deep connection to the game is personal as well as professional, his three children were all elite players who earned Division I scholarships at an early age.
