About Abbey

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am a team first player. I lead by example and want to see the best from myself and my teammates. I truly believe in unselfish basketball and know that’s the only way a team can be successful. I play a quick game, love running in transition and love to defend end to end. I am a shooter and spend countless hours in the gym getting shots up daily.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am a fun teammate and friend, I love to laugh and enjoy life. It’s rare to see me without a smile on my face. I play hard and love the game through and through and it shows in everything I do. From 5am morning grinds to late night midnight basketball sessions, I realized if you love the game, with all your heart…it will always love you back!

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I created a nonprofit basketball foundation www.hustlewithheartfoundation.com and we help underserved female hoopers to be able to play the game we all love! I am also a founding member of the Anti Human Trafficking Club. I received the honor of Athlete with Heart Award from the city of Corpus Christi for outstanding philanthropy work.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I lead by example, lead with heart and purpose and would never ask something of someone if I don’t uphold that standard. I was taught that the standard is the standard and leaders must uphold and work to keep that standard for the team. I know that true unselfish teamwork is the only way a team can find success. In a world full of people who only care about their stats and points, I focus on team!

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Learning to have confidence and believe in myself was a challenge at times, but I realized that the more I trained and prepared, the easier it got. Preparation is the key to confidence and if I’ve properly prepared, I know I can face any challenge coming my way!

What type of college are you looking for?

I want to find a school and team that is like a family. A place to learn and grow in the classroom and in the gym. I want coaches who truly care about us as players and students and want to help us grow. What matters most is that it’s the right fit no matter the location or division. I want to find a school and stay and grow at THAT school!
