Expert Analysis
David Fortner | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Alyssa “Bull” Burkhart plays with swagger, fearlessness, and a scorer’s mentality that Lincoln County thrives on! She hit 61 threes last season and led the Lady Patriots at 14 points per game. Bull is a threat the instant she touches the ball. Defenders must honor her catch and shoot ability while also preparing for her pull-up jumper, which she hits with the same confidence. She makes tough shots look routine, and she is poised to make defenses uncomfortable all year as Lincoln County pushes for another postseason surge.

Another Sophomore point guard, Alyssa spent a majority of her afternoon operating as a wing shooter more than playing with the ball in her hands. Burkhart showed some frustration when she didn’t get a ton of touches early but she never stopped playing hard. Over the course of the day she proved she’s dangerous with or without the ball.

She is an excellent shooter with range. Hit a couple of long range shots and has a good quick release. Provides a good spark for her team. Shifty guard with effective handles. Good on ball defense, quick hands.

Alyssa is really fun to watch! Her handles look like they came straight out of an AND1 mixtape! Shifty, flashy, and effective! She creates separation off the bounce and finishes at the rim with creativity. Alyssa shot it well from three and kept the ball moving with crisp, on-time passes to her teammates. She has a natural feel for the game in a way that’s hard to miss.

When a player puts a certain type of spin on the ball or makes a certain type of pass down the court, sometimes it’s noticeable with how “smart” that type of play turns out to be. Someone who showed glimpses of that today was Alyssa Burkhart of Lexington Crossover UA Rise 2028. Burkhart plays more as a duel PG or off-guard coming down the floor with who else is around her but she still makes a major impact with how well she sets others up. Multiple times on Saturday we saw Burkhart hit her teammates down the floor for a full-court dime. When she was in the half-court, she made the most of her open attempts from the field and that was also pretty noticeable. This team is one that is loaded with guard talent so that Burkhart stood out as one of the best on the day is something she should be proud of.

So many of the standouts on this list first hooped at the varsity level as a seventh grader. Burkhart is another one of those. She completed a stellar season at Garrard County in 2023-24 as she averaged 12.6 points for the Golden Lions. It appears that she will take her talents next door to Lincoln County for the upcoming season. Burkhart would be a worthwhile addition to a Patriots team that has aspirations on continuing its upward trajectory in the 2024-25 season. Burkhart primarily plays as a one guard can particularly wreak havoc on defense and has a 3-point shot as part of her arsenal.
