Washington, Marino served as the team’s offensive engine, leading the Panthers with 16 points and proving to be their most consistent scoring threat. She showcased her range and confidence, knocking down three 3-pointers. Beyond her scoring, Marino’s ability to handle the Wildcats’ pressure for all 32 minutes was crucial, helping Gateway stay competitive deep into the second half of a high-intensity state semifinal matchup.

Marino is a special talent that can do it all. Her ability to catch and shoot is what keeps the defense guessing. A player that can consistently shoot the 3 ball and can do it off the dribble and ball screen. One of the hardest working players on the floor who recently committed to Embry Riddle. Her ability to work hard on both of ends of the floor is her biggest asset.

Marino is the definition of a shooter. Her range and quick release make it tough to guard her. A player that can shoot if off the screen or off the dribble. When opponents push her off the line, she showed her ability to shoot the mid-range jump shot and distribute to her teammates. Next level shooting guard that can score as soon as she touches the floor.

She helped space the floor and had a scoring punch from deep, giving Gateway a potent offensive attack. Her competitiveness on the floor was infectious, but her bread and butter plays were the three pointers she spread all across the court.

She doesn’t just stand in one spot and wait for the ball—Marino excels at getting open off screens such as elevator screens, down screens, and stagger screens. She also knows how to read the defense in dribble hand-off (DHO) actions, making opponents pay for going under screens. Her ability to use pick-and-roll situations to the same effect—punishing teams for sagging—makes her even more dangerous. What makes it even tougher is that you have to pick her up as soon as she crosses half court, as she has the strength and solid base to knock down shots from deep.

Alyssa is a veteran leader on a team full of Junior’s and Freshmen. Her passing is my favorite part of her game as she was 4th in the state in her class for assists (7.0 apg). She sees the floor well, distributes it to her open teammates, and pushes the ball in transition with control. Her AST/TO ratio is a very, very impressive 4.4. Alyssa also has unlimited range and can hit it from deep which contributes in large part to her 18.3 ppg average.
