Mayes’ Airport assembling has had positive fortunes as of late at the Winborn Showcase. The Eagles began this year’s event with an emphatic win over 1A Bethune-Bowman and followed that up with another win over Westminster Catawba. The margin of victory was 52-45 and Mayes led all scorers for the Eagles with 14 points. Standing at 5-foot-8, Mayes is able to give a team productive minutes either at the two in the backcourt or as a four. She first played at the high school level as an eighth grader in the junior varsity level before ascending to varsity status. Mayes is one of three seniors on this season’s Airport rendition. The win over Westminster Catawba gave Airport five consecutive victories at Winborn matchups.
