Expert Analysis

A stellar career at 4A Airport that first saw her enter the varsity ranks as an eighth grader will come to a close following this coming season. Booth’s Eagles finished at 15-10 and made the 4A state tournament, so she and her team certainly has the ability to close out her high school career with an exclamation point. Booth is an efficient runner of the floor and her offensive arsenal includes the ability to connect on 3-point tries. Even though she plays more at the one or two, she knows how to corral rebounds. Airport will have to navigate through a larger and tougher region this year, but the Eagles can hold their own as long as Booth is on the court.

Booth has been the leader of this Lady Eagles squad over the years. Ja’sia scored several buckets in transition that turned into high percentage shots. She really uses the ball-screen well to race by defenders at times. Booth plays her best basketball going to the basket and looking to make plays along the way.

Veteran talent has powered 4A Airport to a 2023-24 where it has already matched its entire win total from last season. One of the reasons for that has been the play of the team’s star junior guard. Booth also assumes co-team captaincy duties for Airport. Booth put 18 points on the board to lift Airport to a 60-53 win over Hunter Huss. The Eagles also picked up victories over two other 4A teams in York and Indian Land for a 3-0 weekend at Rock Hill. Booth is particularly difficult when she gets a full head of steam to the rim and fuses together talent with toughness and veteran instincts.

In 15 games this season, Booth has averaged nine points, 8.4 rebounds and two steals per game. The Eagles are in a region that include tough outs such as North Augusta and Aiken. Booth’s rebounding attributes are more commonly found in frontcourt players, but they are a key attribute of how versatile she can be. Defensively, she can create additional possessions with her ability to collect steals. Booth is also effective in the transition game and she can be accurate from behind the 3-point line. Airport is playing its seventh season as a 4A team since moving up from the 3A ranks.

Booth first arrived on the scene at Airport as an eighth grader and established herself as someone the Eagles girls basketball program can build around in the coming seasons. Toughness is a central element to Booth’s game as she is willing to fall to the floor to complete a play. Booth also has no problems drawing contact and getting to the free throw line. She can and will display how accurate a shooter she is from behind the 3-point arc and also makes plenty of plays in transition. Last season was her first under new Eagles coach Chantel Amick with former coach Jacob Thompson departing for A.C. Flora.

Booth first caught the attention of many a basketball onlooker in the 2020-21 season when she was in the eighth grade with the 4A Eagles. Booth also had to adjust to a new head coach with Jacob Thompson moving on to another 4A Columbia-area school in A.C. Flora and Chantel Amick taking the reins. Booth can be accurate from behind the 3-point arc and also understands how to get out in transition. At times, she will also make good use of the glass for bank shots. Booth is willing to fall to the floor to complete a play and has no problems drawing contact and heading to the free throw line.
