If one is a top-tier in-state talent, one can count on Newberry College coach Johnette Walker to have her eyes on said talent. Brown, a standout at 4A Fountain Inn, will be taking her talents to Newberry College following her swan song season in Fury navy blue and burgundy. Brown has played in 13 games this season for Fountain Inn and has averaged 6.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per contest. Her rebounding efforts have her second on this year’s Fury in boards. Brown is the lone senior on this year’s Fountain Inn assembling and is the first player from the young program to commit collegiately.

Representing one of the premier 4A teams in the state in Fountain Inn, Brown’s Fury had a great week at Spartanburg with victories over 3A Union County, 4A Catawba Ridge and 5A Division 2 Nation Ford. The win over the Yellow Jackets was what concluded the week for Fountain Inn and Brown finished with 16 points in the 55-34 victory over Union County. Out of the 16 she scored, 11 occurred in the first half and eight occurred in the second quarter. Brown blends together talent, versatility and a veteran presence. She also mostly steered clear of the referee’s whistle in that matchup with Union County as she was only called for two personal fouls.

A few weeks ago, the standout senior from Fountain Inn landed an offer from Newberry College and coach Johnette Walker who understands in-state recruiting better than most. Last season saw the Fury move up from 3A to 4A. The 7.8 points, four rebounds and 1.4 steals Brown averaged in 24 games helped Fountain Inn to a 17-8 record plus a 7-3 region mark. Brown was the second-leading scorer, rebounder and assist-getter on last season’s Fury squad. Fountain Inn graduated five seniors from last season’s team, meaning one can expect Brown – who played with Amp Elite on the AAU circuit – to be an important focal point of the Fury’s efforts to remain 4A contenders.
