Ashley had a play when she elevated outside of the lane, two defenders rose to challenge her and she continued to rise and glide by the defenders as gravity pulled them back to the ground. The result of the play was two points but the impact resulted in one of the most spectacular plays of the day. Her transitition defense was incredible as she ran down a play full court and stopped a three on on break. This was only a couple of plays but she was a highlight reel from the time she stepped on the court.

MacCalla’s ascension to the top of the 2027 rankings is no surprise, and was highlighted back 2 years ago when I identified her as an 8th grader playing Varsity for Middletown.

MacCalla is the real deal as a true guard. She has elite speed and change of pace with her handle. Can score at all three levels with ease, sneaky mid-range pullup is almost unstoppable. Smooth, fluid shooting mechanics and shows nice touch with her shot. Her playmaking and decision-making ability took a huge leap, which should round out the rest of her game. Defensively, she is an elite defender in half-court and iso and is always looking to push the pace.
