2027s Setting the Standard: Part 1

Virginia's 2027 class features nationally recognized prospects who have established themselves at the highest levels of competition. From impressive production on the court to Division I commitments, here's a closer look at the top five ranked players. GG recently committed to South Carolina, and her handles and moves are top notch as she flies by defenders with ease in transition, making even the toughest finishes look easy. She's shifty and crafty around the basket, using elite footwork and a clutch jumper to break down defenses in any given situation and knowing how to get to the rim and convert. She's already made a name for herself and continues to show why she's so difficult to stop, with a big senior season ahead at The St. James before taking her game to the next level. Recently committed to UNC, Ojo uses her length to get to the basket and score and shows great floor vision to find open shooters and make the right pass. She finds space for her shot and is ready to knock down a three as soon as she receives the ball and stays active in transition, driving by opponents and creating opportunities for her teammates. She gets on the boards, plays aggressively in the paint, and isn't afraid to get on the floor and fight for the ball, an all-around player who contributes all over the court as she looks to help Princess Anne secure another state championship and complete the four-peat. MacCalla is a D1 prospect still weighing out her options, holding offers from UVA, Cal, LSU, Miami, South Carolina, and Texas, as she's an extremely athletic player who stays active all over the floor. She runs hard in transition to receive lobs and finish at the rim, and her handles are insane, breaking ankles as she attacks downhill and makes her way to the basket with a defender on her hip. She has a tight handle that allows her to protect the ball and execute how she wants, and she has fun out there, making you want to replay it every time she has the ball. Anderson is a UVA commit and a walking bucket who plays well against pressure and knows how to create her own shot; if she wants to score, she'll find a way to make it happen. She uses ball screens to create space on the perimeter, dribbling to the top to knock down a three, and can also attack downhill, back down defenders, and spin to score off the glass. She defends well in transition, jumping up to disrupt passes and collect steals and pushing the ball up the floor, whether she's finding an open teammate or taking it all the way herself. Forrester is a Rutgers commit who has a strong presence around the rim, flashing to the ball from weakside baseline to score, ripping rebounds away from opponents, and boxing out for dominant positioning to secure putbacks. She makes nice cuts to the basket, including clutch backdoor cuts, finding open lanes and making herself available for easy finishes, while showing great footwork and the ability to adjust her take when needed. She uses her length well, extending toward the basket as the ball rolls off her fingertips for the finish, and moves with purpose.
