Ava used a pocket dribble and zipped a left-handed entry pass through a tight window for an assist down low. She anticipated passes on defense to grab steals and earned a trip to the free throw line after driving hard to the basket. Ava went off for 10 points the fourth quarter, sinking four shots from the charity and two triples. She paced the Irish with a team-high 13 points.

Ava turned in the play of the day during the LBI Mitten Opening. Trailing by two with time ticking down, Ava dribbled the ball calmly up the court, created space with a crossover step-back combination, and banked in a cold-blooded triple at the buzzer for the win. She drained triples in the slot and the wing, while breaking full-court pressure throughout the game. Ava scanned the court to find open teammates and dished out several assists. Her competitiveness, confidence, and poise stood out for the Irish.

Ava looked her best at the MBA Mother’s Day Classic for Mystics 2026-P24 Ruh. She blew by a defender using a quick sweep to score a soft floater at the rim. Ava finished layups with both hands, showed her competitive fire by ripping the ball away on defense, and buried a pure wing three. Her shiftiness, fundamental skills, and quick decisions with the ball make Ava an outstanding lead guard.

Ava was locked in at U of M Team Camp on Friday and was the most impactful player on the court for her team in game one and continued her success all day. Ava drilled 3s, scored a back-cut layup and-one, made smart decisions to kick the ball out on drives to create open shots for teammates, and added a buzzer-beater 3 to secure victory for the Irish.

I’m going to start by saying that both Rodriguez sisters could be in this article, but I’m going to put Ava in this piece. It’s a good time to focus on her shooting, seeing as she recently hit a half court shot at the buzzer. Rodriguez can fill it up off the dribble and the catch. She’s a smart shooter that recognizes good looks at the rim.
