Averi has been a game changer for Riverview all season with multiple 20+ point performances including a dominant 27-point performance during a win against Airport last week. Her strong presence in the low post, fierce rebounding, and effective passing off the dribble helped the Pirates compete against SMCC. Averi pins defenders using a wide, strong seal, which makes entry passes easier for her teammates. She cut to the block, sealed her defender, and used an excellent forward pivot to convert a contested floater in the paint. She won physical battles for multiple offensive boards and kicked the ball to open shooters when the defense committed to her drives. Averi scored with her left hand off two feet and beat the defense with her dribble in transition for a layup. She tied the team lead with 9 points.

Westbay can be a great addition to a program at the next level. I saw her play over high school season and was thoroughly impressed. She can attack defenses and make plays that most simply cannot off the high post. If Westbay gets the ball cleanly at the free throw line, it’s a game changer.

Westbay has been fun to watch. It’s nice to see how she’s developed her game and found ways to get in success positions on the floor. I haven’t seen many players all season that can work off the high the way that she can. Westbay catches passes at the free throw line with strong hands and then makes smart decisions with the ball. She can bury a mid range jumper, use a powerful dribble drive or pass the ball off to an open teammate.

Riverview picked up the win, battling throughout and pulling off the win with seconds to go. Westbay was a key factor in the win and was at times nothing short of dominant on the offensive end of the floor. She consistently worked from the high post and looked comfortable and well schooled in doing so. Westbay caught the ball at the free throw line, spun to the right and scored at the rim. She also showed that she can utilize the shot fake from that same area and attack the rim off of it. Westbay really had a variety of ways to catch the ball around the free throw line and finish with a take and make. She was even able to hit a mid range jumper from the same spot.

Westbay is definitely a Pirate to keep an eye on this coming season. The talented Riverview forward brings some toughness and versatility. Westbay utilizes her strength to play bigger than her height. She can power herself into position to attack the glass. Westbay has strong and dependable hands in the paint and can work off a post catch.

Westbay impressed at last year’s Top 250 and we’d like to see her do it again! She has strong hands and a pretty spin move that she gets buckets off of.
