Finishing the game with 18 points, Avery controlled the pace as the team’s primary ball handler and playmaker. She knows the gravity she has on the floor and does a great job finding open teammates when the defense’s eyes are on her. Additionally, she did a superb job passing the ball through Spencer’s press — she hit cutters at just the right time and utilized her dribble to separate from incoming trappers. To create her own shot, Avery found pockets behind the screen for tough threes and shrugged off defenders with a balanced step back. In the paint she stuck in a putback off of a strong offensive rebound and a secured a momentum-sealing and-1 off of a backdoor cut. DeHaan is a college level prospect, that moves around as a guard on the outside. She is a stable scoring threat on offense and a pesty defender on defense whenever she is trying to mess up the rhythm of the opposing team. When you watch DeHaan compete, you know that she is going to give it her all. It’s just her nature and there is nothing wrong with that. That’s what all coaches love to see.

Northwestern locked in a pair of 2026 prospects this past month. Their first being Avery DeHaan Avery DeHaan 5'9" | CG Storm Lake | 2026 State IA of Storm Lake High School. DeHaan, a 5’10 CG, is versatile on the high school floor at the moment as a guard. She moves between the 2 and the 3 spot, sometimes even moving to the 4 position when called upon. In college, with her natural size and ability DeHaan should stay in her natural position of the 2 or 3. That will help her early on in her career find her role within the program, ultimately giving her some playing time before you know it!

Storm Lake producer Avery DeHaan Avery DeHaan 5'9" | CG Storm Lake | 2026 State IA grabbed a Juco offer out of her area from Coach Flowers & Southeastern CC this past weekend. This is DeHaan’s second or third offer the past few weeks as we move into the school year. I don’t have a feel for where DeHaan might commit too but she is someone with natural ability, better than average athleticism, and a smart head on her shoulders. She is one of those players that is willing to do whatever is asked of her. For the past three season at the varsity level, she has been a name we consistently hear about and I don’t expect that to change this upcoming Winter either.

Storm Lake secured a solid W last night with their team effort on both offense and defense. DeHaan registered over 20 points last night in her team’s victory, while hitting 5 three point attempts from the outside. From start to finish this game was DeHaan’s. Sometimes it’s just a players night and it was her’s in this situation. She kicked things off by scoring early and often with her shooting ability, then her team’s defense took things from there. It’ll be fun to watch this Storm Lake group these next three months. They have a few prospects we have spoken on, so it’s always interesting to see what they will be able to put together as a group but as for Tuesday night, it was all DeHaan.
