Not really a star making turn, as Hjelmstad is already one of the brightest stars in Oklahoma. But a match up against Union was a loud reminder on just how good the future Utah Ute is. She simply does it all on the court, looking even more athletic as a rim protector, with quicker more explosive movements. Which also translated to looking smooth while avoiding defenders on drives. It’s clear the already impressive Hjelmstad has upped her game even higher and is set for a monstrous senior season.

Utah commit Avery is the #1 ranked shooting guard in the class of 2026. Avery is a excellent shooting guard that needs no room to get her shot off. A must find player if the opposing team is playing zone defense. A exciting player to watch on offense that can change the game with her shooting abilities.

Game Watched: Unity Basketball vs Team Moriah Jefferson
Earlier today, Hjelmstad pulled the trigger on her college decision joining Utah. During multiple viewings of the high level prospect this past high school season, she shot it good but never great. This was a truly great first half shooting performance that showed why along with her size, toughness and high basketball IQ, the rising junior is an ELITE prospect. She buried four triples in the first half of the contest. With her fourth possibly being the most impressive, as she hit as a trailer, where the defense closed out quickly. But Hjelmstad’s release was even quicker and her shot was pure. With her shooting stroke, size and apparently unflappable manner, the future Ute is well set up for next level success.

A do it all junior wing, Hjelmstad is a great mix of toughness and skill. She was the only Bulldog to break into double figures, with a game high 16 points. A lot of her scoring came as she fearlessly attack the tough North interior defense. With a mixture of power to take contact or hit floaters and other skilled shots over out stretched arms. She’s another great representation of the loaded talent at the top of Oklahoma’s Class of 2025.

The junior sharpshooter had a stretch in the second quarter where she made threes look like layups. She has a pure stroke and hit threes from spots all around the arc like it was an “around the world” shooting drill, as she hit at least five three pointers in the contest. Along with Hjelmstad’s shooting exploits, she had some great moments as a help defender, causing steals and other havoc causing moments with her quick hands and long arms.

Avery showed off all of her tools in Friday nights game. She came out scoring and did it in myriad ways. Inside, outside, at the line, midrange, it really doesn’t matter. Defend her with one person, three people, it doesn’t matter. She’s gonna get her buckets and her boards. In the championship, Avery had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. For the tourney, the co-MVP had 36 points and 24 rebounds over the three game span. Our No. 7-ranked player in the class of 2025 has seen her stock rise drastically over the last year or so and pretty soon, one of eight schools is going to be very excited to get a big announcement from this tremendous all-around player!

An “Ice Cold” performer, she’s a versatile guard with the size and willingness to muck it up around the basket on both ends of the court. In the slow paced slugfest, she never got in a rhythm offensively. But when needed in the second half she popped up in key moments. There was one burst early in the second half with a three and a putback that helped Edmond Memorial hold off a challenge from Lincoln.
Then with the game was teetering midway through the fourth quarter she drilled a three pointer through heavy contact. She proceeded to hit the ensuing free throw for a four point play that was simply ice cold. Hjelmsted would finish the night with a productive double-double, 13 points and 10 rebounds.
