The Washburn University commit’s ability to create her own shot, score at all three levels, motor and hustle were pretty much unmatched by the Panthers. Unfortunately she and her teammates missed several bushels of open layups and short jumpers. McCorry showed why she is among the best floor savvy players in the state though and makes a variety of quality passes in different situations. Defensively, she reads plays and offensive players’ individual movements that result in challenged shots, deflections and steals. Defending the entire 84 foot floor is something she did repeatedly.

Excellent on-ball defender who excels in the passing lanes. She is pesky and active with her hands on that end. Avery is really persistent at getting to the basket and is always looking for her angles to get there. As the primary scoring option and leader of her squad, her passing might be her most impressive skill. She can see plays develop and pass react quickly to them. She also sets extra screens to create more of those openings for her teammates. She communicates very well on the court to boot, which makes her a very well-rounded player and difficult to game plan against, plus a playoff nightmare this season.

First time seeing Avery play and I can see why she is ranked #1 at the shooting guard spot in her 2026 class. She checks all the boxes that you are looking for at the guard position. First the height at 5’10 has a strong looking body that can handle the physical play at the next level. The all around skill set is amazing she is listed as a shooting guard but handled the ball most of the time in pressure situations. Mostly in part I would guess cause of the IQ she has. Nice footwork on the catch n shoot or the 1-2 stepping into the shot.
Tough defender on the front of the press that has quick lateral feet forcing a turnover on the pass. Great vision on the front court steal with eyes up the floor looking to make the pass to open teammates.
A dual sport athlete that I was told could play basketball and soccer at the next level. A very polite young lady when visiting with her. I will be following the 2026 to see where she will be playing at the next level. As she has D1/D2 offers in both sports.

McCorry’s court vision is next level and sets her apart as she is consistently anticipating plays before they unfold and delivering timely, accurate passes to teammates. A multisport athlete who also plays soccer, she brings a natural feel for spacing, timing, and movement that translates seamlessly to the basketball court, especially in transition and screen-and-roll situations. She takes pride in passing, but still has a scorer’s mentality as she can score from all three levels and is consistent at the free throw line as well.

Outstanding first half for the Kansas guard especially as it came against a few of the top prospects in Oklahoma. Even on a court with other great athletes, she was one of the fastest. Complete with the ability to switch gears and have outstanding quickness. Was a terror in transition and even had some nifty tight window passes on drives. Good accuracy and velocity on those dimes, exciting player to watch. Even has some fight and quick hands on defense. Faded a bit in the second half, but there’s still a lot to like about McCorry’s all around game.

How McCorry did not gain any all-state notice last season is beyond me. Even in the Greater Wichita Area League she only was named honorable mention. Having watched her game develop for a few years she has emerged as a game changing talent and one of the top small forwards in the state regardless of class. McCorry’s a dangerous perimeter shooter with range, a creative ball handler and mid-range scorer. She also has length and defensive skills built on balanced, quick feet and anticipation. Heading into her junior year she showed over the summer that she is a strong, high IQ, two-way player. A veteran college coach told me the only thing needed for her to play major college ball is more shots. The Golden Eagles are among the pool of 5A teams who could win the gold ball and McCorry’s game, especially on the offensive side of the ball, will produce some long nights for whomever matches up with her.
