Avery is the top-rated 2029 prospect above the Mackinac Bridge, and she played like it at the Yooper Hooper Showcase. Her balance and efficient shooting off the dribble during the shooting drills really stood out early. Avery buried multiple corner and mid-range jumpers off between-the-legs and crossover dribble combinations. She swished a pure corner three off a drift. During basket finishes, her inside hand scoops, stride-stops, shot-fake step-throughs, and pro hops were atop the group. Avery looked like these drills were a part of her daily routine, and in one sequence, she climbed an invisible ladder to score an athletic double-clutch layup on the opposite side of the basket. She had no trouble changing directions, replicating the footwork, or finishing using either hand. Avery attacked on a hard drive to score a sweet inside-hand finish layup during 1v1 and added a silky smooth pull-up wing three off a wide lateral dribble. She crashed the glass and jumped up off an invisible trampoline to tip in a miss on the offensive end. Avery penetrated, collapsed the defense, and kicked to perimeter shooters to create open shots during 5v5. She sprinted back on defense to force a missed shot during a fast break and was active on the boards. Avery is ready to have a massive sophomore campaign at Marquette this winter.

Avery made a statement at the Zero Star Showcase. She was a Top Performer and perhaps the most aggressive player on the court. Avery has a tenacity and fierce competitiveness that you love to see in the backcourt. She leaps up to block shots and moves quickly laterally to stop dribble penetration. Avery has the ball on a string and accelerates with an explosive burst on her drives to the basket. She’s a threat from beyond the arc and has outstanding touch on her finishes, making her very effective at scoring from difficult angles in the paint. Avery looks like the best U.P. prospect in her class and has the potential to keep climbing the list.

Avery came out right from the start and played like she had something to prove at the Zero Star Showcase, competing with maximum intensity in drills, which carried over directly into games. She asserted herself in the 2v2 segment, using quick between-the-legs crossover moves to get to the rim. Avery showed off her hops, climbing the ladder to score contested layups while maintaining balance as she absorbed the contact, then finished with excellent touch. She got to two feet and added a sweet fake-pass stretch finish to convert a tough layup on the go. I wrote down “great touch” multiple times in my notes. One of my favorite plays was when Avery jumped up in front of the basket like she had springs attached to her shoes, timed up her block perfectly, then volleyball spiked the ball so hard it went flying out of bounds and knocked the scoreboard off the table. She set a defender up with a high, skipping, pound dribble, then shifted into high gear for a drive-by layup. Avery showed her outside range by drilling an open corner three off the catch. She’s a dynamic point guard prospect with game-changing abilities, quickness, and competitiveness. Avery was a Top Performer and belongs with the elite point guard prospects in this class.

I watched Avery play for the first time at the Zero Star Basketball Showcase during the summer, and her talent was crystal clear. She creates space off the dribble using a variety of crossover combinations and finishes with excellent touch in traffic. Avery has a confident shot from three-point range, and she’s going to be an instant impact player in the backcourt for Marquette this season.

Avery went up against some of the U.P.’s finest at the Zero Star Showcase and fit right in with the top prospects in the gym. She’s a shifty point guard with nasty handles who can create space, finish shots from difficult angles, and bury jumpers. Avery works hard on the defensive end and could make another statement by performing at a high level against the best 2029s downstate.

Avery is a point guard who will be turning heads as a freshman at Marquette this winter. She put on a dazzling display with her elusive ball-handling and confidence at the Zero Star showcase. Avery used a nasty behind-the-back, hesitation, crossover combination to create separation, then hung in mid-air to finish her layup. Her fast footwork kept ball-handlers bottled up on defense, and she attacked downhill with explosive bursts off the bounce. Avery created space using quick lateral dribbles while maintaining a wide, balanced stance, then accelerated by her defender to score a layup off two feet. She dropped in contested floaters, finished many tough layups throughout the day, and drained a smooth free-throw jumper off the dribble. Avery fired passes to open teammates and used a sweet spin move on a drive from the wing to beat her defender for a layup. She’s a prospect for college coaches to pay attention to, and we would love to watch her compete at our Freshman Showcase in August!
