Yooper Hooper Showcase: Point Guard Playmakers

Since 2024, I'm proud to say the U.P. prospects have become a priority for Prep Girls Hoops Coverage. I've traveled North each summer to support the Zero Star Showcase (<a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/2026/06/zero-star-showcase-session-two-top-performers-2/">Read About Here</a>) and made a concerted effort to provide virtual coverage to Yoopers during the high school season (<a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/2024/12/yooper-hoopers-week-one/">Read About Here</a>). Our mantra at Prep Girls Hoops Michigan is to find, identify, and provide coverage for as many prospects as humanly possible. It became very important to me as I've gotten to know the coaches, parents, trainers, and wonder people North of the Mackinac Bridge over the past few years that there be an individual high school showcase offered for girls basketball prospects from the entire U.P. to attend. Downstate kids benefit from constant Prep Girls Hoops coverage, and that's something I want to make sure the girls North aren't missing out on. Since the 2025 class, more U.P. prospects have received PGH coverage, represented the U.P. in postseason awards, and been included in our rankings than ever before: no longer being completely missed or ranked far lower than their true projection as a college prospect. That's a result of intentional effort to evaluate these girls in person, trips to the U.P., and prospects coming down with Zero Star Basketball to play some of Michigan's best AAU clubs last summer.   <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/08/PXL_20260807_141617189.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1894122" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Yooper Hooper Showcase by Prepare 2 Win Basketball and Bay College, Aug. 7, 2026. </figcaption></figure>   Head Coach James Fassett and Bay College Women's Basketball partnered with me to offer the first-ever Yooper Hooper Showcase, a special event on the U.P.'s home turf. Coach Fassett and Coach Zach did a phenomenal job leading skill segments with the girls, putting on a training masterclass with the girls in areas of shooting, footwork/finishing, and ball-handling. I couldn't be happier with the talent, participation, and support for the event in its first year. I'm confident that she could hold her own against the top prospects'downstate. Emma separated herself as one of the most accurate shooters during drills. Sinking many threes from different spots off the hop and knocked down smooth pull-up jumpers off the dribble. Emma lifted and drifted to her spots, caught passes with her feet ready to shoot, and swished the threes with a confident stroke. During the stride-stop, show fake step-throughs, and reverse pivot finishing drills, Emma converted layups comfortably with both hands, showing excellent body control, pace, and footwork. She drove hard downhill into a jump stop, pivoted and used her shoulder to create separation, then scored the tough finish through contact during 3v3. Emma has good instincts off the ball and cut backdoor for a nice catch and finish. She slashed to the hoop for multiple layups and made a great dump-off for the assist after forcing the defense to commit to her dribble. In 5v5, Emma used a hard jab step to open up a driving lane and ripped by with a burst, showed a second gear and drove by with a burst for a contested finish at the rim, and swatted a shot away in the paint. She corralled a defensive rebound and immediately looked to score, pushing the ball coast-to-coast, used a quick crossover to beat the final defender, then finished a left-handed layup with ease. Emma closed out the showcase in style. She snatched a defensive rebound, raced to half court with her eyes up, then fired a bullet bounce pass through a small window to a sprinting teammate in stride for the assist. A huge season is coming up shortly for this talented Munising freshman.     Bianca is a flashy point guard who impressed me throughout the Yooper Hooper Showcase. She attends Marinette High School and plays travel for [program_tooltip program_id='713127' first='Wisconsin' last='Legends']. Yesterday was my first time watching Bianca play, and she made an outstanding first impression. She has all the quick-twitch moves, athleticism, compact muscular frame, polished fundamental skills, defensive effort/instincts/mechanics, and the high motor you want in your backcourt. Bianca didn't waste any time separating herself as a legit prospect during the event. She paced the group during stationary ball-handling drills: strong, quick dribbles, wide, athletic stance, eyes up, low and fast dribbles, good control, and was able to do the most challenging inside-out, behind-the-back snaps well. Bianca kept her feet balanced and knocked down multiple threes during shooting drills. Her stride-stop, show-fakes, and step-through finishes included fluid ball transfers, sound footwork, and smooth transfers that resulted in efficient finishing with either hand. Bianca made high pick-up finishes look easy in the drills. During the 1v1 segment, she used her shoulder to score a contested floater off the glass, then stared down the rim, froze the defender with a show fake, then stepped through for the bucket. Bianca kept defenders on their heels with her shot fakes and jab steps. She continued to excel during 3v3 and 5v5 play. Bianca switched hands with fast, low dribbles and drove by with a burst for a layup. She used good pivoting footwork to score inside, sprinted back in transition to break up a fast break, made smart backdoor cuts, boxed out with good technique, and crashed to secure offensive rebounds. Bianca picked off a pass on the defensive end, immediately pushed with her dribble, noticed nobody stepping up to stop the ball, attacked straight to the basket, and caused a foul. She's a dynamic guard prospect who proved she has next-level upside during the event.     Avery is the top-rated 2029 prospect above the Mackinac Bridge, and she played like it at the Yooper Hooper Showcase. Her balance and efficient shooting off the dribble during the shooting drills really stood out early. Avery buried multiple corner and mid-range jumpers off between-the-legs and crossover dribble combinations. She swished a pure corner three off a drift. During basket finishes, her inside hand scoops, stride-stops, shot-fake step-throughs, and pro hops were atop the group. Avery looked like these drills were a part of her daily routine, and in one sequence, she climbed an invisible ladder to score an athletic double-clutch layup on the opposite side of the basket. She had no trouble changing directions, replicating the footwork, or finishing using either hand. Avery attacked on a hard drive to score a sweet inside-hand finish layup during 1v1 and added a silky smooth pull-up wing three off a wide lateral dribble. She crashed the glass and jumped up off an invisible trampoline to tip in a miss on the offensive end. Avery penetrated, collapsed the defense, and kicked to perimeter shooters to create open shots during 5v5. She sprinted back on defense to force a missed shot during a fast break and was active on the boards. Avery is ready to have a massive sophomore campaign at Marquette this winter.     The first time I saw Bree play in person was at the Breslin Center as a freshman with ETC. I loved her game then, and she's continued to grow on me since. Bree has a calm confidence, poise, determination, competitive edge, and polished skill set that stands out when she steps onto the floor. She was consistent throughout each segment of the Yooper Hooper Showcase. Bree was at the top of the group during the stationary ball-handling segment. She changed hands quickly, between-the-legs, inside-outs, maintained a wide/athletic stance, eyes up, fast, hard, and low dribbles, and kept control of the ball during transfers. Bree buried three straight corner threes during drills and set herself apart by using her left hand to throw baseline kickout passes to the corner, which is exactly what you'd have to do in the game with a defender in the paint. Bree converted layups effectively using either hand during the basket finishing drills and attacked with fast dribbles at game speed. She executed the various footwork very well, used long strides, and stretched in the air to convert the layups. In 1v1, Bree closed out quickly, but under control using textbook technique, didn't fall for multiple fakes, moved her feet with a low, athletic stance to cut off the drive, and contested the shot without fouling to force the miss. Bree continued to perform well during 3v3 and 5v5. She used a shifty double-crossover move to create a lane, then drove by her defender for a speedy layup. Bree moved her feet quickly laterally to stop a drive and attacked with a burst to score a drive-by layup with her left. She started a fast break with a strong cross-court skip pass up the floor, handled the ball with poise, and caught a pass in stride to score a layup on the opposite side of the rim off a basket cut to end the game. She's a facilitator, sharpshooter, impactful defender, and skilled finisher to watch in the ETC backcourt this winter.     Breyelle turned in a strong all-around performance at the Yooper Hooper Showcase. I commented during the event that Breyelle was extremely scrappy on the defensive end. Her aggressiveness resulted in multiple steals where she ripped the ball away clean right out of an offensive player's hands. Breyelle showed her outside range by hitting multiple threes from the corners and wings. She caught passes with balance on the move and followed through with confidence. Breyelle looked very comfortable finishing with her right and left during the reverse pivot and show-fake turnaround pivot drills. Breyelle's tenacious two-way effort stood out during the 3v3 segment. She showed off her hops by blocking a shot and anticipated a pass, leading to a steal off the deflection. Breyelle has sharp instincts on the defensive end. She anticipated a spin move, beat the dribble, and immediately clamped down on the ball to tie it up. Breyelle sprinted in and outworked her opponents to secure multiple offensive rebounds. Her impact on both ends of the court continued to stand out during 5v5. Breyelle reached in with quick hands to strip the ball away for a steal, pushed the ball up the court, and drained a pull-up three from the top of the key off the bounce. She ripped the ball away for a steal, dished out an assist, and delivered a great lob pass inside with touch for another assist. Breyelle accelerated with a dribble burst for a drive-by layup and jumped up on the perimeter to bat down a pass for a steal. Breyelle split the gap on a determined drive for a speedy layup, and she's going to be a difference-maker in the L'Anse backcourt again this winter.     Kwynn has length and athleticism that immediately catch your attention as a prototypical next-level guard prospect. Her skills and versatility were on full display during the Yooper Hooper Showcase. Kwynn shot the ball accurately from different spots during the shooting drills, keeping her feet balanced and following through with a high release. I made a note of her smooth mechanics, and she knocked down shots consistently from beyond the arc as a result. Kwynn finished well using both hands during the stride-stop and show-fake pivots. During 3v3 and 5v5, Kwynn sprinted the floor and made smooth transfers to finish effectively at the rim with her right and left. She turned the corner quickly for a straight line drive-by stretch layup and swished a deep three from the slot. Kwynn buried another deep triple from the slot and dished a nice lob assist into the post. She was solid throughout the showcase and will be an exciting prospect to watch in the L'Anse backcourt this winter.
