Expert Analysis
Jeremy Brooks | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Owens returns for her Senior season as Lincoln High’s main producer from years past from the guard position. Owens is moveable between the 2 or the 3 spot, usually yielding positive results with whatever she is doing. She can handle it and move to the 1 if need be but she isn’t a natural PG. Last season she led her High team in multiple ways. Vocal as a leader, by example with her actions on both sides of the ball, and with her production. This time around it’s going to be a lot of the same in those aspects and I’m sure she is ready to get after it.

is holding 5-10 offers from the collegiate level to continue on after this Winter following a successful AAU season with her NHE 17U team. Owens is fast acting, she competes with a chip on her shoulder, she is coordinated more than most her age, and she has solid size at 5’9. This past twelve months she has been someone that has stepped up whenever I’ve watched her compete live and I’m hoping that she can do that for her Senior season. She didn’t see the Varsity floor as much as she should off during her 2023-2024 campaign so it’ll all come down to how every adapts to the given situation.

of Lincoln High. This AAU season Owens received some interested from some colleges around Nebraska and the Midwest in general. This is something that I think could be a great stepping stone for her at the end of the day. Once she gets to the next level and figures out her place within that program, she is going to be able to take her game-play to a new level with the right confidence. Owens has been a solid prospect the past few years whenever I’ve seen her compete and I don’t think that is going to change anytime soon. She is someone that makes things happen offensively, while being lockdown on defense and that is always going to translate.

of Lincoln High – High School. She ended up leading her team in scoring one game but mostly she was the prospect on her team that was consistent each contest, putting up around 10 PPG, along with tallying some other positive statistics at the same time. Owens is still uncommitted but she has some collegiate options at this time. She should have a lot more in my opinion but that’s another conversation. I’m sure she has some visits lined up this Fall to help her decide where feels like “home” the most so we will just have to wait and see how it all plays out.

of Lincoln High is going to have her best year of basketball to date this next twelve months on the hardwood. Owens is a 5’9 Combo Guard, with seemingly longer arms and a ton of athletic ability to pair along with it. Owens competes with Nebraska Hoops

on the AAU scene and she has put together a respectable season up until this point. Moving into the month of July, Owens will have more of a chance to show what she can do for collegiate recruiters live and in person one more time before her Senior season of high school ball. If she can continue to show that she is a solid teammate, while producing here and there. She should have a few more recruiters reach out moving into the Fall.

I’ve always said that Ayana Owens competes with a strong demeanor and with a chip on her shoulder. As of most recent, Highland CC has thrown their name in the hat to scoop up Owens following her high school career. At this point, I’m not sure where Owens will end up to compete but I think that she is going to have a handful of options out of the Midwest. She is a guard that could definitely make a difference at the next level if she is playing confident in her own ability. She just needs to find her place and it’ll all work out for the best.

Ayana Owens is a prospect that plays with a chip on her shoulder. She is skilled in several different aspects of the game at the Guard position and she isn’t afraid to stand up to anyone that might get in her way of being successful. Sometimes your team needs that player. Someone with an enforcer type attitude, that will stand on business and that’s what Owens brings to the table. Not to mention, she is pretty skilled in her own right. She makes solid plays, her effort is always there, and she has some raw ability to mix in with all of that. She can create off the dribble, score through contact, or pull up for a nice jump shot when given a moment. She is competing with a well-known program out of Nebraska and they are sure to put on a show. If she plays to her full ability, she will be one of the best in the gym this weekend at the 17U level without a doubt.

is eye-opening. She has demonstrated the ability to score in consistent ways, the ability to produce off of the dribble and the ability to switch on defense against a smaller guard or a bigger post player while holding her own. A player like this, that is producing each and every high school game at this point, is going to go places if she stays dedicated. Every game she comes into, she wants the smoke and isn’t going to backdown from anyone that stands in the way of her goals. In this Update, Owens cracks our Top 15 at the #13 spot. Not a bad place to be but I know she won’t be satisfied. If she can continue to produce at a high level, while her team is competing each contest to their fullest, she is going to jump up these rankings in a matter of no time. Like I said above, staying locked in is key. If she can do that, it’s all going to work out in the end.
