About Carmen

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am a point guard who gets the ball down the floor quickly, facilitates the ball, and gets buckets when the opportunities present themselves.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

My mentality is to overcome my inner self. I always want to challenge and push myself in anything that I do. Whether it’s in school or basketball, I stay competitive in everything.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am currently in Black Girls Do Engineer, National Honors Society and National Society of High School Scholars.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I’ve developed leadership not only through basketball, but through various projects at school, and being captain on my robotics teams. Being in robotics and basketball made me learn how to listen to others and work together as a team. Without those qualities, the team wouldn’t prosper. I’ve also done numerous hours of community service totaling up to 150.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

There have been times when I’ve faced racism and sexism. One example was in my previous school robotics team. They would purposely leave me out of building and learning things for the robot. I would have to force myself into learning and building things. The lead instructor even told me that I wouldn’t make it far in basketball. I want to prove him wrong.

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a college that has Robotics Engineering, and other engineering courses available for me to take. Other than that, any college would be fine.
