As defending 2A state champions, Griffin understands every team they face will give the Generals their best effort. She will make sure Cathedral Academy matches its opponent’s best with its own best given the Generals have been a tough out for many comers as of late. One of those latest adversaries was Beaufort Academy who the Generals would face in the 2A quarterfinals. With 20 points, Griffin ensured Cathedral Academy’s defense of its 2A crown would continue. Ball handling is one of the areas of her game she puts plenty of emphasis on and she embraces her on-court leadership role. She has no problems drawing contact and getting to the free throw line. If she misses a shot, she is likely to corral an offensive rebound.

Fresh off of Cathedral Academy prevailing as 2A SCISA state champions, Griffin’s plan is to translate that into momentum on the AAU circuit this go-round. Griffin’s Coastal Select 17U team was on the receiving end of a 41-26 defeat to Elevate Elite Richmond 17U, but Griffin proved to be a bright spot as she put 12 points on the board. A good number of Griffin’s scoring occurred because of her ability to attack the rim and finish strong. Griffin can play the role of the classic floor general and knows when to score and when to pass. Free throw shooting has also proved to be another of her strong points.

Griffin led the Generals to the SCISA 1A championship game last season against Newberry Academy. Coach Chris Pouyat’s team will be another favorite by many to reign supreme against the 2A field this season. Coastal Select is the team that she runs on the grassroots circuit with during the spring and summer months. At 5-foot-8, she primarily plays at the four. When she has the hot hand, it is wise to feed Griffin the rock as she will have occasions where she embarks on scoring binges. Her scoring capabilities combined with what she gets accomplished as a rebounder make her a double-double possibility on a game-by-game basis.

Dare to try to contain Claire … it is not likely to be successful. Griffin was a key piece in the Generals’ run to the SCISA 1A championship game. She also earned a spot on the all-tournament team. Griffin is listed at 5-foot-8 and plays primarily at the four. She is a double-double possibility as often as she puts the ball through the basket and grabs the rock off the glass. Griffin can also have occasions during games where she embarks on scoring binges and lead her team on extended runs. SCISA’s reclassification will see Cathedral Academy compete as a 2A team.
