So far, Grigg has put up Grigg-esque numbers for the 4A Trojans. In the seven games Northwestern has played in, she has averaged 21.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.3 steals per contest. Grigg has played at least three sports throughout her athletic career as she includes soccer and volleyball on her athletic resume. Prep Girls Hoops has already seen Grigg at A1 Hoops Report’s She Got Next at White Knoll HS in central Lexington County and at the Battle at the Rock at South Pointe HS. Ball handling skills, the ability to drain her attempts from 3-point range and and free throw shooting are among Grigg’s many strengths. She also had a strong showing earlier this summer at Dawn Staley’s team camp at the University of South Carolina.

One of the more entertaining contests of Friday’s play occurred on the main court at White Knoll – when the 4A Trojans earned a 51-50 victory over the 5A Gators of River Bluff. Northwestern needed every one of the 26 points Grigg dropped to will Northwestern to victory. In addition to ball handling skills, Grigg also spearheaded the Trojans’ attack from behind the 3-point line. In close contests such as Trojans-Gators, games are won at the free throw line and Grigg put a good number of free throw attempts through the basket in the second half. In the closing seconds, Grigg dribbled out the clock to seal a Northwestern win.

Grigg averaged 15.6 ppg, 4.3 steals and 2.6 assists last season for the Lady Trojans. Darby is a feisty guard who has no problems sacrificing her body at times on the floor when it comes to a loose ball or taking a charge. Grigg a 3-sport athlete also excels on the soccer field and volleyball court.

Between what she does as a volleyball, basketball and soccer standout, it may be easier to ask which sports Grigg has not played. Grigg had a breakout season as a freshman for the Trojans and had her best statistical campaign for 4A Northwestern averaging 15.6 points and 4.3 steals per matchup. She runs the floor with efficiency – including in transition – and defensively comes through as a shot blocker. Grigg takes care of the ball and brings a fearless mentality every time she steps on the court. She can be accurate as a defender and dangerous on defense as a ball hawk.
