Velazquez is a player that we mentioned last season as being someone to note and I’m saying the same thing now. Bridgeport will have a good overall regular season with a chance to go to State. If they want to make that happen, Velazquez will need to put up some numbers. Something that is definitely possible looking at all the factor included.

Bridgeport put together another State run after another impressive Winter. Velazquez makes smart decisions, she understands what she does best, and she loves to play off the energy of others. She gets down the floor in transition in quite a hurry, always looking for easy looks in the open court. I would categorize Velazquez as a pass-first type of guard, who looks for others but if opportunities open for herself, she is willing to take them. Defensively she is one that likes to get scrappy. She isn’t afraid to use contact to make her opponent feel uncomfortable and that really wears on whoever is against her in a 1v1 matchup. I’d like to see what Velazquez does for AAU season. She will be competing with a tough program out of Colorado so the possibilities are endless.

Bridgeport High School comes into a situation where they have almost a perfect record and they are looking to make some big waves come this Post Season. Velazquez won’t be her team’s main source of production but she does standout each night with the heart she competes with. She seems like a dedicated individual as it pertains to this sport and that’s only going to help her grow over time. This Bridgeport team is extremely dominant. They have won a lot of contests by 25+ this season but now things tighten up with the Playoffs so we will see how far they can take things.
