Ella played well at the New England Spring Showcase, making her presence felt on both ends of the floor. She pressures the ball aggressively and creates turnovers with active hands, while also hustling to tie up loose balls. Offensively, she keeps her head up and delivers on-time, on-target passes in transition. She’s also a crafty finisher at the rim and a confident three-point shooter with a smooth stroke.

The do-it-all guard is considered a top-level talent for a reason. She plays a vital role for Westerly and she can be counted upon to come through with tough 2-way play. In Ella’s last game, she finished with 28 pts plus 11 reb. With Reyes leading the way, Westerly has the state on notice right now.

Ella had a dominant performance leading Westerly past North Kingstown, finishing with 28 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 3 three-pointers. She creates space effectively off the dribble and moves well off screens to get open, with the range to knock down shots from well beyond the three-point line. Ella has been a standout since before the season, when I saw her earn MVP honors at the Eastern New England Showcase with an all-around strong performance.

Ella consistently attacked the paint, finishing well and drawing contact that earned her frequent trips to the free-throw line, where she converted efficiently. She opened the second half on fire, knocking down a three and following it with back-to-back off-hand layups in the first three possessions, forcing a quick timeout from the opposing team. Throughout the game she showed the ability to finish with either hand, and her strong all-around performance earned her MVP honors.

Ella has been averaging nearly 15 points in February, impressive for a first-year player on a competitive team. Reyes just had a 25-point game vs an elite Moses Brown team and pulled out an upsetting victory. Ella has been one of the leading features in Westerly’s successful season. They just had a 12-game winning streak and Reye’s top-tier play has been unrelentless, chastising opponents that neglected the scouting report. The fantastic freshman has exceeded initial expectations from the preseason. Reyes’ preeminent play will have her as one of those players to watch in the playoffs.
