Johnson was the first player on the floor, grinding away at jump shots before play started for the day. That early work was a fitting introduction to a player with stand-out length, athleticism, and a solid shooting stroke. Though she was one of only two middle schoolers in the gym playing alongside high school talent, Johnson did a really nice job holding her own. Johnson’s handles were ahead of most players her age and while the shot selection can use some work, her offensive decision-making will naturally become more refined with experience. There are plenty of physical tools for a coach to work with – the next steps in her development will be contingent on her self-motivation.
