Newell-Fonda made their mark the last six months by revenging their State Title loss from the year prior. This season they came back with one goal in mind and they completed that goal as they leaders did their job. Leaders like Ellie Sievers. Sievers might only be going into her Junior year but she did a great job of leading the pack these last few months. When things got tough, she stayed positive and showed everyone that if they believe, they can make it happen in the end and her played demonstrated the same thing. She was one of the best at making plays when her team needed it and that’s going to be something they look to for the next couple of years as well.

slides right into our Top 15 in this Update. Sievers, the 5’6 CG, is coming off of a rememberable Winter season. Her Newell-Fonda Mustangs program won the 1A Class State Title, killing their competition all season long on both offense and defense. Sievers moved around within the Mustangs system the past few months. At times she played PG, bringing up the ball off the rebound. At other times she would move to the Wing position so she could play off of her other guard’s distribution. No matter the situation though, Sievers came to play. She was one of the best overall prospects in the 1A Class and I’m sure that’s going to be the case once again next Winter as well.

- 15 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 2 APG, 1.5 SPG
Sievers was the Captain of the 1A All Tournament team while leading her team to a 1A State Title this past week. Throughout all three of her contests the promising guard averaged 15 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 2 APG, and 1.5 SPG, showing a good variety of skill on both offense and defense as a constant threat. This has been a prospect that has been solid for years now on the travel scene so it’s not a surprise that she is standing out at this 1A level. She is making it look fairly easy so it’ll be fun to see how she follows that up this Spring on the road with her Pray4Him program.

Newell-Fonda is back on top as 1A Champs. In a very tight 1A Class, the Mustangs came out as winners in another classic in the final. The biggest producer for this group was their Sophomore star –

. Sievers is a CG with good peace of mind of the court. She understands situations real well, she is smooth as can be in the skill aspects of the game, she always plays off of two feet, and she naturally knows how to make plays when they needed to be made. We saw brief moments of this ability last season but this Winter it was much more prevalent. Next year this group will return their killers from this Winter so as long as they play their cards correctly, they should be right back here again next season but we will see.

was a force to be reckoned with tonight. The sophomore guard scored at an efficient rate (11-20), was a monster on the boards (finishing the game with 13), and showed her ability to score both in the paint and behind the arc. I loved Ellie’s aggressiveness from the jump. Don’t let her size fool you — she’s a freight train with the ball in her hand and knows how to finish the rock. Aside from sprinting ahead for kick-ahead finishes, Sievers’ game featured a blow by for a floater, a polished finish off of two feet, and solid footwork on her step-through. If her looks at the rim weren’t enough to impress you, she also drained two big three pointers in the second half. I really enjoyed watching Ellie play tonight and thought her energy was a catalyst for the #1-ranked Mustangs.

was a constant all game long. Sievers was debatably the most coordinated player on the floor last night. The way she moves down the court seems effortless and she always plays a calculated game on both sides of the ball as a producer. She might not be the top scoring threat every night but she is one of them for the Mustangs and her consistent play in this one helped them pull out the upset when the final buzzer sounded. Sievers did a little bit of it all here. She scored to start the game with a solid step through move when she was cut off, she attacked and facilitated for her teammates throughout all four quarters, and she defended in the full court with top-notch pressure. All in all, this is a Top 20 prospect out of the 2028 Class for a reason and she showed it tonight.

plays the game of Basketball. Sievers is a guard that plays off of two feet whenever she is attacking. She knows how to get into her base and play off of that with a step-through or a fake into a better look. Sievers also leads with communication. She is not afraid to be vocal and that is something that college recruiters love to see. Overall, Sievers is someone that plays the game the right way and that is going to take her places at the next level.

and Newell-Fonda High School. Sievers is a next level talent as it pertains to the skill side of the game but I need to see her dominate moving forward as her team’s number one option. She has all the ability to do so, it’s just about making it happen now. Last Winter we saw Sievers put up good numbers but as it got closer to the State Title game, things began to really speed up and give her some trouble. I know she can control the pace of play better than that and I’m excited to see it happen this year with a dangerous Mustang’s team.

has always been a skilled-killer out on the hardwood and I expect her to take a big step up over the next twelve months. Sievers is as talented as they come. She can do it all on offense, while being a skilled defender as well. Defensively, she understands when to sit back and wait for the ball to come to her or when she should be ultra-aggressive as she looks to cause a steal/deflection. Sievers will have some more help for the foreseeable future coming in this Winter from the 2029 Class, so we will patiently wait to see how everything plays out within their 1A Class level. If they play their cards right, this is a group we could see back in the 1A State Title game before you know it.

to take over within her Newell-Fonda program. Sievers has been a standout ever since she was a middle school prospect and she solidified that while coming in last year as a Freshman. Sievers is going to be one of their two extremely impressive guards this Winter and moving into the future. Ellie should put up over 20 PPG, while also averaging high numbers in Assists, Rebounds, and Steals. She is one of the most skilled players that the 1A Class has in Iowa at this time and that’s going to be evident for everyone paying attention from afar.
