This one right here is a player and what might more important than that, she is a shooter.
A college coach once said something that stuck with me when we were comparing evaluations. ‘At some point, at some level, you have to be able to shoot.’ He was talking about why he wasn’t going to offer a well-known prospect.
Well, here we all go, because this one can. She was a big factor in her team’s big win in the morning. Her coach mentioned that she hit 8 3-pointers on the contest and frankly all I knew, after losing count, was that something special was happening.
The prospect is a 5’9″ combo guard out of Fremd, Illinois who is currently ranked 26th in the 2025 class. With this shot form and this production that ranking might change.

Thompson found herself in the top 5 for scoring averages for the kickoff of the PGH circuit events. She had multiple high level games, but her ability to shoot at a consistent rate from deep was put on display. Shes not the type of player that will hesitate or over think where she’s letting it go from. She has the length to keep up with multiple positions on the court, as well as play multiple rolls. Strong vision, strong handles and a player who wants to be aggressive on the defensive side.

Whether it’s scoring or facilitating, Thompson can get it done. She’s crafty, fast and has a bit of edginess to her style of play as well. Greater Purpose Athletics is rebuilding their girls program, and Ellie has returned back to bring another high level scoring option to the team, and a different type of flare. A definite player to watch when spring ball starts up.

An efficient afternoon for Thompson, who logged 18 minutes, 5-7 in the field (3-5 from behind the arc) and 0 turnovers. Thompson has the frame of the new college guard. Shes lengthy, quick and has a bit of craftiness to her game. Her ability to make plays is a testament to her high IQ as well. Solid upside.

A lengthy and crafty guard who can play off the ball just as well with the ball. She can make plays on the move and from a standstill position. Whether its from the arc or at the rim, Thompson can find ways to score. Defensively, her length and instincts are key to her being impactful.

Ellie is synonomous with spot on shooting. She has great form and accuracy from the 3 point line. Super smooth and easy to the basket, don’t think her game is all offense. While she shows patience and skill on the offensive end, she can defend all positions and trap even the most agile defender.

Ellie is a package deal. She can knock down 3s, mid-range shots and drive to the basket. She has no problem ignoring the pressure the defense puts on her. She either passes them to get to the rim and finishes or passes to the open player. Created plays for many of her teammates.

Thompson’s length allows her to score in a multitude of ways. From the arc to the paint she gets it done. Aggressive on the defensive too, her length allows to guard 1-3, and contest shots from 4/5s. She plays well off the bounce and off the catch.

Big Thompson showed up at the expo and clearly put on a show. The moves, the length, the feel and confidence towards the game Ellie displays is top notch. She can create for herself at all levels on anyone.. she can score or facilitate against multiple positions. A deep bag of patience, sharp ball handling and high IQ decisions. Her gambles are high reward, low risk and that proves to the consistency she shows on every possession that touches her hand. She can score with fluidity, and or creativity.. she gets the job done. Fremd is loaded with young talent, and the programs future is in great hands.

One of the best guards and overall players in her class, Thompson posses a large amount of overall skill and potential. Being on deep talented high school team, can shift perceptions.. but Ellie holds her on, and will continue to show her offensive scoring talent, high alert defense and the length to play and guard multiple positions. At all areas of the court Ellie finds an advantage, the potential is sky-high.
