Last night against Iowa City Liberty Fincham put up an impressive stat line of 24 points (9/16), 8 rebounds, and 5 assists to lead her team to victory. This included going 4/5 from behind the three point line and 2/2 from the foul stripe. This game was a battle. It was physical battle back and forth with both groups being beat up pretty thoroughly. It was close in the fourth and the Trojans just happen to pull up it. Fincham continues to prove herself this season to anyone watching from afar. She is going to be at the top of the scouting report for opposing teams moving forward so now it’s all about how she adapts individually and as a team in real time.

The first thing that stands out about Fincham is her intensity on both ends of the court. The senior plays all out at all times, energy that is infectious for her team. During an early-season match-up at rival City High, Fincham was hyped up and putting up numbers when the Trojans earned a tough rough win. The Northern Iowa commitment notched a double-double, leading West in points (23) and rebounds (10). Struggling early to figure out how to overcome a taller defender, Fincham leaned on pulling the opponent away from the basket and finishing at the rim off of dribble penetration. She’s a three-level scorer and not a shot hunter. Her physical strength is an asset.

is a physical, gritty forward that does it all for her Iowa City West squad. She is the first to dive on loose balls and is a glue kid for the veteran-laden team. She showed off her ability to score across the floor last week in their matchup vs. Clear Creek Amana, where Fincham finished the game with 21 points and 4 boards. Though Fincham’s bread and butter is to muscle through contact in the paint (which she does very well), she showed finesse with a slick turnaround jumper in the lane and handles from the perimeter and in transition. She’s also a poised free-throw shooter (hitting at an 82% clip this season) and is a capable three point shooter to boot. If you are looking for a no-nonsense player who will read defenses and give you production, Fincham is on that list.

this Winter. Fincham is a UNI WBB commit and she is going to have to play like it this season if IC – West wants to make some waves within this Class from a State-wide perspective. Fincham can be really good. She has a fundamental shooting from, she has an act for being in the right place at the right time, and she is dedicated to her crafty in her off-time. I’m not sure how she is going to fit at the D1 level but as long as she works hard enough and controls what she can, she should get better and better. This is a hooper that will be looked upon to play a major role with her West team for her last go-around at the high school level. If she plays her game, she should be just fine and her team should have success.

made some big moves this Spring by playing up with the
All Iowa Attack
17U EYBL program. Fincham, who is a 5’10 mismatch at the high school level, recently received D1 offers from UNI and Drake moving into the month of June. Well this past weekend Fincham made the commitment to become a Drake Bulldog for her collegiate career. A program that she should know a good amount of the players, as many of them also come from instate Iowa. I always love when players get a chance to show what they can really do and that’s what Fincham should get in this situation down the line.

has been trending upwards this past twelve months. Fincham, the 5’10 CG, is a mismatch nightmare and this past weekend she competed on AIA top EYBL team. Usually when you have a loaded roster like this, players tend to over-shadow each other but Grace did a great job of keeping it simple and that ultimately made her look very good as a recruit. She was efficient in everything she did, she was aggressive when openings presented themselves, and she demonstrates that she knows how to play her role in which-ever system she is working in. Prior to this AAU season, Fincham received a UNI offer. Her first D1 offer but at this point, it won’t be her last.

capped off her Junior season with her first D1 offer from UNI. A pretty good way to end things in my book. Fincham is a 5’10 Combo Guard. In reality she is a mismatch nightmare for most. With her height, her physicality, and her agile skill-set she becomes a tough one to handle on both ends of the floor. She can post smaller defenders, she can score in the midrange off of a jumper in space, she can catch and dribble to finish at the bucket, or she can step out and knock down a shot from deep. As you can tell, this is someone that checks a lot of boxes. I wouldn’t be surprised if she grabs a few more offers this AAU season with her AIA program.

prior to the tip off of this season because of her mismatch ability in 1v1 situations. In West’s first contest of the Winter, Fincham went crazy. She dominated in every facet of the game. She had a game high 32 points on 16/18 shooting, including going 1/2 from three point range and 1/2 from the free throw line. She also recorded 6 rebounds, 5 steals, and 2 blocks in her efforts. This is definitely up there for performance of the week in my book. When you account for this monster stat line and that her team won by 15 against a well versed opponent like Solon, you start to understand that this game might be up for performance of the season by the end of the year but we are still a long ways away from that.

is really a mismatch nightmare when it comes to both sides of the ball. Fincham competes for Iowa City West Trojan at 5’10 and she moves between the inside of the paint, all the way outside to the perimeter past the three point line. Her standing height mixed with her ability to move down the floor is eye opening when you see it in live action. Offensively, she can post smaller defender or step out and screen with action going toward the hoop or the outside. Defensively, she can stay with bigger prospects, even through physical play and she can stick to smaller prospects if need be on a switch. All in all, The Trojans are going to be able to make a run this year with their roster and Fincham will be in the middle of that production.

of IC – West is a tough matchup to handle in 1v1 situations. From what I’ve seen over the past few months, no one can really make her mixture of size, skill, touch, and coordination around the rim. Especially if she gets a first step on anyone who may be guarding her. Fincham is coming off of an AAU season with the
All Iowa Attack
that helped her grow as a player and person. With the surrounding cast that will be around her this Winter with the Trojans, she should be able to take her momentum from AAU season and channel it into another great six months of ball at the Varsity level.
