After suffering an injury last season, Grace’s return was highly anticipated. Throughout the season she put on scoring clinics countless times. However, when she arrived at Redbird Arena, her future home… she went into a different mode. Regardless of the outcome of the finals, Nelson was able to show her ability to be effective on a college court. She shot the ball well behind the college line, and seemed to be able to keep up from a stamina standpoint too. Her movements have purpose, and there’s no flash to her game. She’s one of those players who will probably have a better collegiate career… and that’s saying a lot. A heck of a basketball player.

Two back to back performances that left fans in awe. Game 1 Nelson finished the game with 31pts and 6 boards. Though the outcome wasn’t what she wanted, Game 2 she tapped into a different mode and secured the win with 39 and 9 boards to go with it. To say she left it all out there is an understatement, but I can bet that she’ll be having moments like this soon on the same court.

The talent and pure skill Grace has can’t be overlooked. I have a feeling even with all her HS accolades, she’s going to be an even better college player. The kid just knows the game, and how to play it. Smooth, but aggressive. Red bird Arena will be able to get a preview of a potential standout college player.

Nelson hasn’t lost a step. A confidence and feel for the game are two things that a player has to have to compete at the next level, and Grace has it. A for sure candidate to win some of the prestigious individual awards at the end of year.

The new Redbird commit, has been the talk of Southern IL for some time. A tremendous amount of scoring accolades matched with some solid team success. Nelson can get it going off her first 3 made shots, or even after the first one. She honestly a perennial three level scorer. Her leap into the top 15 was solidified before the commitment to Illinois State, and when she returns the floor next year.. shell once again show why she’s a top guard in this state.
