Two back to back performances that left fans in awe. Game 1 Nelson finished the game with 31pts and 6 boards. Though the outcome wasn’t what she wanted, Game 2 she tapped into a different mode and secured the win with 39 and 9 boards to go with it. To say she left it all out there is an understatement, but I can bet that she’ll be having moments like this soon on the same court.
UNANIMOUS SELECTION | MVP
Since day two of the IHSA Finals, Kloe has been one of the most dominant players to showcase her talents. In Game 1 she finished with 27 and 9 to secure the semifinal win. In the finals, she took things to another level to take home the 3A state title. 36 points, 6 assists, and 5 boards to finish it off (Most points scored in a 3A title game). This kid has been consistent every year. The number one prospect in the 2024 class has completed the ultimate goal.
For the past two years, Alayna Kraus Alayna Kraus 5’8″ | PG Okawville | 2024 State IL haas dominated the 1A division in the state finals. She had a high scoring close out game last year to secure her first state title, and this year she repeated. Kraus captured another state title while dropping 33 points. In both the semi final and final, Kraus showed that she is truly one of the best players in her class.
Coming into the state finals, Wardle already had a name for herself.. but today she really put it on the map with one of the best performances this weekend. 18 points, 2 steals, and 2 assists. The highlight of the game was the finisher she delivered to leave 1.3 seconds on the clock. A top freshman in the state for sure.
The kid plays with so much poise and patience, that you want go against it.. and i have.. but i have been WRONG. Engels has shown that she is legitamely one of top guards in her class and it was on display this past weekend. 17 points and 12 boards on the night for the semi final game. In her final high school game she captured a 4A state title, and put up similar scoring numbers with 17. However, it was her ability to play with 4 fouls in a crucial game. Hell of a season for the Cornell commit.
One of the most efficient players over this weekend was Olivia Austin Olivia Austin 6’0″ | PF Nazareth Academy | 2024 State IL . A 2nd place title is nothing to look over, and that wouldn’t have been possible without Austin. Game 1 she put up 16 points and 8 boards with only 3 missed shots on the night. In the finals, it was more of the same, 16 and 4 boards. Austin will be heading to Dartmouth this upcoming fall, and the way she plays the game should translate seamlessly.
