move away from the ball is among the most entertaining things to watch at a Homestead game. Zortaman plays with reckless abandon that can lead to fouls, but it also leads to multiple extra possessions per game. Her effort wins games whether it shows up in the box score or not, and I’ve always appreciated how hard she plays and how comfortable she is playing that role. Zortman is not committed anywhere and may not want to play at the next level, but she’s been one of my favorite kids to watch in that class.

The Homestead senior is one of my favorite kids to watch in the 2025 class. Zortman may not be the most notable name in that group and may not even play at the next level, but she plays as hard as anyone. Watching her attack loose balls is one of the things I love watching about her most. Her motor is on another level, and she’s become a more well-rounded offensive threat. However, her toughness, motor, and ability to play taller than her 5’6 listed height define her as a player.

Zortman is an exceptional defender. She is both quick and smart, and she never misses a beat on the court. In fact, she is involved in every single play, contributing to numerous hustle plays and points. On defense, she applies full-court pressure and remains active on offense, working off the ball by cutting, screening, and occasionally posting up. She is capable of driving to the basket from the perimeter, using her quick first step to beat her defender. Zortman displays proper close-out techniques and effectively boxes out on shots. She also crashes the boards on the offensive end, often leading to an extra possession. With impressive shooting form, Zortman can successfully hit the three, but she primarily scores through drives, cuts, and by finding openings on the court. Last year, while playing for Homestead, she averaged 12.4 points per game, shooting 50% from the field. It should be an exciting season for Zortman as she will be alongside her senior teammates in their pursuit of a state championship.
