Whenever Waterloo East has has success the past couple of years, it’s usually because of Downing and her positive play. I expect Downing to have another important year this Winter. If everyone else comes correct around her, they should be able to win some more games before things come to an end for the 2026 Class.

She has 3-4 offers right now and she might grab a few more before she commits, depending when that choice is coming down the pipeline!

She is thorough in what she does and she really tries to put the team on her back when she has too. Over her career, Donwing has been asked to do A LOT. More than most in my opinion. It’ll be awesome to see what she can become at the next level when that’s not the care anymore. She can still come in and be the top dawg but she will have help around her to really thrive at her natural position on the hardwood. I expect another respectable season out of this one this Winter. If she stays locked in, I’m sure she will post some noteworthy numbers once again.

Downing is a coordinated guard, that is asked to do a lot throughout the high school season. She is asked to score, rebound, defend, handle, assist, and lead all the others around her. She does a good job with adapting to situations and making it work. This ability has caught the eye of some coaches at the next level. Specifically, Downing was offered by Central (Dutch) to start off the week. A good program that runs a solid system. Downing is on the road for this upcoming live weekend so hopefully she can play well and show out. She is competing with an impressive group of girls so moving forward, anything is possible.

Downing averaged 8.8 PPG as a Sophomore last season for the Trojans, while also tallying 4 RPG, and 2 SPG in her efforts. This season, her goal will be to continue to produce on offense by scoring the ball efficiently, as she attempts to cut down on her turnovers. If she can do that, I really think it will take her game to a whole other level. She has demonstrated this AAU season her ability to do all of these things at a high rate so translating that ability to the high school floor shouldn’t be a problem and with their leading producer from a year ago now gone due to graduation, Downing should have even more opportunity to prove herself. Something I’m sure she will take full advantage of as she continues to work on her craft.

Downing is a Top 75 ranked prospect out of the 2026 Class in Iowa because of her ability to create and finish at the rim. She is someone with a fundamental type game but she makes it work, usually always yielding positive results when she has control of her team’s offensive identity. This AAU season she has taken the floor with the well known Lady Martin Bros Program and helped them compete at a high level. The month for July will be an important one to help Downing in a recruiting scene moving into the future. If she can continue to play how she has throughout the season up until this point, she is going to happy with the results she see’s at the end of the day.
