Her leadership, fundamental skill, college-ready muscular development, and IQ are separators as a prospect. Gretel was the deciding factor during Negaunee’s 47-30 victory over Gladstone in the District Championship Game, leading the team with 17 points and five assists. She’s a lockdown defender, expert facilitator, slasher, three-point threat, and a crafty finisher.

She left no doubt that she belongs with the top guards in the state when I saw her in the U.P. over the summer. Gretel was one of the best prospects in the gym, regardless of class, at the Zero Star Basketball Showcase. She’s an excellent facilitator, lockdown defender, accurate three-point shooter, and fundamentally sound offensive player. Gretel scores, leads others, and makes the effort plays. She checks the boxes and has an offer from Michigan Tech.

Gretel was an All-UP First Team selection for Negaunee, and an even bigger junior season is on the horizon. Her physical strength and athleticism immediately grab your attention. She competes hard and communicates like a coach on the court. Gretel pushes herself to the max in her training, and the results show in competition. At the Zero Star Showcase, she was one of the best players in the gym. Her ball-handling speed and control stood out. Gretel has a high basketball IQ that shows as she makes unselfish passes to open teammates and understands making the right play. She shot the ball at a high clip from the mid-range and three-point distance. Gretel worked hard on defense, and that created several steals. She’s a combo-guard prospect who earned a higher ranking, and I’m excited to see her play a prominent role again for the Miners this winter.

Gretel is a 2027 guard from Negaunee who was one of the best prospects in the gym at the Zero Star Showcase. Gretel immediately separated herself during the ball-handling segment. Her inside-outs, crossovers, between-the-legs, and behind-the-back combinations were quick, low, fluid, and controlled. She paced the group across the floor with a wide/athletic stance and fast feet. Gretel was an efficient perimeter shooter, knocking down three-pointers and mid-range jumpers throughout the day. She was a coach on the court with a high basketball IQ. Gretel impressed me when she pointed out strategy during games and noticed the team was settling for good shots instead of great shots. She scored an offensive rebound put-back, dished a great jump pass assist off the dribble, and created several steals on defense. Gretel penetrated gaps with her dribble, pushed the tempo, and made unselfish passes. She was a Top Performer with the leadership, strength, athleticism, and skills on both ends to be a highly recruited college prospect.

Gretel is a playmaker from Negaunee who has the athleticism, robust strength, hard-working demeanor, and basketball abilities that immediately grab your attention. Gretel is a prospect who I feel is on the verge of a monster Junior season and will be a phenomenal prospect for college coaches to pay attention to at the Zero Star Showcase.

Gretel has been a key contributor for Negaunee this season and she gave the team an edge at the Irontown Holiday Bash. Gretel shot lights out from beyond the arc, hitting 5 of 11 3-point attempts in two games. She scored 23 points and added 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals for the Miners. Gretel created steals and deflections with her defensive pressure, worked hard to secure offensive rebounds, took a charge, and ripped the ball away from a forward in the low post. She knocked down a mid-range jumper in transition and hit two important free throws at the half against Ludington. Gretel earned All-Tournament Honors and her complete performance helped Negaunee win the tournament championship.

Gretel is a point guard prospect who showed out at the Zero Star Showcase during the summer and will be the next great prospect for the Miners. Gretel has a strong athletic profile and she explodes off the dribble on her way to the basket. Gretel pressures opposing ball handlers with solid defensive footwork and distributes the ball effectively as a passer. Gretel hits shots from 3-point range and will continue to impress as she fine-tunes her outside game. I expect Gretel to break out as a playmaker this winter and will be looking forward to following her among others at Negaunee this season.
