Evan Bell | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
There have been several 1,000-point scorers across the state this season, but Halen accomplished the rare feat of surpassing 2,000 points during a 57-44 win against Gladwin on Friday. She is the only player in boy’s or girl’s history at Sanford Meridien to score 2,000 points in a career. Halen is a bulldog inside with perimeter accuracy that turned into seven triples against Harrison. Her perimeter shooting, quality footwork, passing precision, aggressive defense, strong rebounding, and tough finishing will be a welcomed addition to the Lake State program next season.

Halen is one of those scrappy guards whose toughness and physical strength stand out amongst the group. A center has to be fearless in rugby because they run a dead sprint toward a line of defenders waiting to catch a pass and break through the tacklers. Halen plays with great defensive balance and footwork that would make her effective as a tackler on the rugby pitch. She has the muscles and toughness to play center and her dynamic ability to pass the ball, catch, and play through contact would make her an excellent #6 in Rugby Sevens.

Halen was a complete player for Mystics-S40 who had a great tournament at the Select Super Shocase in Hamilton, Ohio. Her strong build and instincts in the paint make her different than other guards; she sealed off a smaller guard then made a low post entry pass assist. Halen finished contested drives at the rim, hit from 3, and pressured the ball on defense. She contributes in every area to help the team succeed.

McLaughlin is an energy player that any college coach would welcome to their squad. The skilled guard excels under pressure, showcasing exceptional ball-handling skills and remarkable passing abilities. She was scoring at all three levels at The Mitten Summer Showdown. Halen has received some offers, and I’m excited to see where she will take her skills.

McLaughlin is a versatile player who excels on the defensive end of the floor. She is a tough defender, constantly causing deflections and steals. Additionally, she is a skilled decision-maker when handling the ball. McLaughlin effectively attacks the basket and finishes well even when contact comes. She has also shown proficiency in making multiple shots from behind the arc. It seems she is poised to have a big summer with her Mystics team.

– Received an offer from Olivet.
Olivet made a very smart decision offering McLaughlin. She continues to improve and has just gotten better and better as the spring rolls along. McLaughlin has shown the ability to score in traffic off 1 or 2 feet and has been able to bury her jumper from mid range and beyond the arc.

(2025 S40) performed at a high level in many areas on the court Saturday during the MAAC Scrimmages. She drove hard to the paint and used a counter pivot to score off the glass, then showed her efficiency from beyond the arc knocking down a multitude of 3’s. Halen scans the court and moves the ball, while playing gritty defense to steal the ball and cause turnovers. One of her best plays was converting a full speed layup through hard contact at the rim with her left hand. Halen’s strong, physical, and tough stature combines with her finesse offensively to make her an all around exceptional guard prospect.

McLaughlin is a player that college coaches will want to see this summer. She’ll be playing with the Michigan Mystics 17u S40 team this grassroots season. McLaughlin is already seeing interest and offers, including a recent offer from Alma College. She’s a consistent shooter and scorer that passed the 1000 point mark early in her junior season.

McLaughlin led her team to a conference championship, and had a tough District draw playing State Champs, Hemlock. She was a 2nd team selection in the Associated Press All-State team. I am expecting McLaughlin to put up big-time numbers in her Junior season.
